I need to invest in a set of regs as I am starting to get involved with tec diving. I have been advised to look at the 'xstream' but the recent article in Divernet slagged them off something terrible.
Do any of you guys have any opinion on them or offer an alternative. I wont skip on quality am not over concerned about price - just dont want to spend a bomb on them if they are crap. The other ones ive been offered are the Apex axt50 and the Scubaporo mk25

ScubaPro I use they for everything. I have some other regs but they just sit around. I have the s600-mk25's and love them. Hope this help's

And Welcome aboard.

This thread should be moved to either the tec forum or the regulator forum...I think you'd get better answers there....Personally, I don't do tec diving, but have been looking into buying either a scubapro or mares abyss for my personal use

I was thinking the same thing. Moved to regulator forum -Spectre

Allot of techies use Apeks and Scubapro. But along with those there are some who use Posiedons and Mares. All Good regulators, do some research on the performance of those and choose what suits your needs best. I use Scubapro myself( I have 10 of them).

I use a mark 25 and a poseidon combination!!

Why mainly the scubapro's are a tad smoother than most so this is the primary and the jestream is on the left post bungeed to the neck!!! They never really screw up or freeze! I figure why have all your eggs in one basket if the sp freezes than you got the handy high performance poseidon!! All the guys in our "TEAM" of trimix divers use this combo and we are doing dives in the 200 to 300 ft ranges in the GREAT LAKES....!

Hopes This helps you make a decision

I use US Divers/Aqualung; SEA/Micras on my doubles; Legends on my stages, Titans on deco bottles. If I had a bottomless bank account I'd run Legends on everything.

who makes 'xstream'? Never heard of that one....

I use sp but apeks and poseidon are also common choices in that arena....

myself apeks because they breath so easy even when deep

I have a bunch of SCUBAPROS and a bunch of Apeks. I like them both. That said:

The Apeks 1st stages (non swivel) are deigned for use with soubles, therefor the hoses are routed much nicer than with the SCUBAPROS.

Performance wise I would say they are equal.

Apeks are a sealed 1st stage, so if gunk (in my case, silt) is of concern, these are a nice option.

The Apeks are considerably less expensive than SCUBAPROS.

My personal opinion: If money is an issue (and when isn't it??) I would say go with Apeks, I think you will be pleased with the performance for the price.
