No I think our way is easier. 12l tank filled to 215 bar's volume in L is 12x215. That is all.

The poster asked if a 3L bottle is enough. Well, you cannot answer that question in the European system because he did not provide the pressure rating of the bottle. The 3L is just the size of the air chamber of the bottle. Without knowing the pressure you cannot tell how many air molecules that bottle is holding.

In our system I would ask: is a 19 cf bottle enough, and you'd have enough info to answer that -- I don't have to specify the pressure. The 19 cf is standardized to 1 atm.

3L x fill pressure = useable gas. If I was wondering I'd go "well if you can fill it to 200 bar then you'd have X litres, which I'd estimate to be enough/not enough, if you can only fill it to 100 bar then you'd have X litres, which I'd estimate to be enough/not enough".

All you need to calculate how much gas you have in the metric system is the pressure the tank is filled to (which is different every dive) and its water capacity.

 Am I going to die If I use a 3L?..

Yes, and saying a cylinder is 20cuft can be deceptive IMO, it is assuming it is filled to max working pressure which, from my experience, shops rarely fill them to.

Well, that depends what you use it for!

Yea exactly.... I mean all my tanks are rated to 232bar, but my fills have ranged from 190bar (grrrr) to 260bar, so I don't use the max working pressure in calculations as it is irrelevant to me.
