Hi everyone - new to the board but it seems like there's lots of good information and people with a lot of experience here.

I'm looking to get my first computer and would appreciate any advice.

I'm a rec diver (50ish dives), and mainly dive on holiday's (based in Sydney, so usually tropical diving in the Pacific, reefs and some wrecks) - often 7-10 days at a time, 2-3 dives a day. I'm not looking at consoles, just wrist/watch models, and probably want to spend in the $500 range. I don't need air integration, and don't dive nitrox at the moment (so it's a plus but not mandatory). User battery change is welcome (assuming it's straightforward).

From what I've read the Oceanic Geo 2.0 seems to be shaping up as the main candidate but I've got a few questions and a couple of alternatives.

First, can anyone comment on readability? It's a bit hard to get a sense of how small/clear the display is. I was considering the Nemo Wide, but it doesn't seem to match up in terms of features, and seems like it might be a bit too large. It also doesn't seem like many people here use the Nemo Wide, so I'm wondering if there's a reason behind that.

Also, looking at the Veo 3.0 vs. the Geo 2.0, the features seem to be the same, but the Veo is more expensive. Is there any reason to go with a Veo if I don't intend to console mount?

Next, can anyone comment on the Tusa Zen? Looking at the user manuals online I would guess that it shares most of it's components with the Geo, but with a couple of slight differences (Single Algorithim, but O2 bar graph).

Last, I'm interested in the dive log features. Is one manufacturers software better than the others?

I know I've got lots of questions, but any advice would be great. One note: I've read some of the ther threads on the different Algorithims so at this point that's not a key factor to my choice (although the ability to choose in the Oceanic seems like a nice feature).

Thanks in advance!

I had a Suunto for a while and recently got the Geo 2.0. I have about 40 dives on it now and really like it. I think it is very easy to read and use. I also like that when you're on a dive vacation you don't need to have another watch.

I use MacDive for downloading and love it. Good luck.

+1

Got 30 dives on mine....half of them Nitrox

Software is a bit of a struggle but I've managed to get is running well on Win 7 and Vista.

Agree with the above. I have about 60 dives on mine. I need glasses for normal reading, but have no trouble with the display. This was a major factor for me.

I normally dive a Suunto Cobra but wanted a small wrist computer as a backup and for my son to dive, so we bought the Geo 2.0. I dove it several times then had my son using it and we both found it very easy to read and understand. There are many, many options and it will take reading the manual to understand all the options at first, but once you learn the menus, it's pretty easy. Probably easier and more options than the equivalent Suunto. I high recommend the Geo 2.0.

Thanks everyone for your comments - particularly Alberto for the picture of the Geo next to the Veo. From the image it doesn't look like there's too much difference to the display size even though the housing is bigger on the Veo.

One more question - if a dive buddy was looking to get something a bit more basic and less expensive, what would you guys recommend? (Similar usage to me).

Thanks again!

Thanks again for everyone's help. I've gone ahead and ordered the Geo 2.0.

Does anyone know if there is a difference for NDL in repetitive dives if you use the Timer function instead of Safety Stop function?
