Have you considered a P-weight? They end up being around 6 lbs, but I don't see why you couldn't make it slightly shorter if you didn't want the extra 2 lbs.

This is a pretty decent idea which I'd forgotten about actually, but many plates are kinda flat for it. The plate pictured is a FredT and those are pretty deep V-ed, hence the 7lbs

Lead vapor scares the crap out of me...but I think a p-weight is a great idea. I ordered a tail weight from dss that has extra long straps. I'm hoping I can accomidate the v-weight and tail weight together as a temporary solution while I work up my plan to make a p-weight! Thanks for the feedback!

There is no room for a tail weight pouch with a V-weight. Unless you make your own pouch with extra long straps.

I've made it work using some cave line to dangle it longer.

Follow-up

I tried out the dss tail weight holder that has extra long straps. It worked fine with my v-weight. I put in a 5lb soft weight and was perfectly weighted with the LP108s at ~200PSI. The nice thing is I can use it with my LP95s as well if needed (for example I might add a few pounds on a high current dive). I'm happy with the dss tail weight solution.

I have a similar issue.

I had been diving double AL80s, using an 11 lb V-weight and a 4 lb soft weight in one of those extra long DSS pockets.

I just got a set of LP 85 doubles. So I don't need the V-weight for them. But it feels like there's a lot less room under those tanks, even for the wing to inflate. I've tried putting a shorter tail weight on the bottom bolt both above or below the wing, but either way it looks like its going to want to bang into my butt.

Is this not something to worry about? Have others found creative solutions?

Thanks.

I'm wondering if the added weight on the stages, depending on how heavy might end up making you a bit too heavy at the beginning of the dive. I guess you'd have to pick and choose the number of stagues you put the weight on.
