Well,
Just took delivery of my Eclipse system, it looks sweet. Amazing how crude and "Neanderthal" my old BC looks next to it...Admittedly, perfomance will be the test and I will be diving on Saturday, weather permitting...

Moving on to my question. I also ordered the ACB12 system along with the rig. This morning, playing around a bit (like a kid with a new toy) I was stuffing some soft weights into the ACB pocket. Should accomodate 6 pounds on each side, but I could not even get the pocket to close with a 4 pounder in there...If that's the case, I'll likely pass on it in lieu of another alternative (and a cheaper one, like Xpockets...).

Any experience?

That's funny - that it wouldn't work. I was using plates in my 20 and when I got to diving 8 pounds, it was too small - so I moved to soft weights.

Don't eBay the thing until we hook up. I have the ACB20 and am looking to move down to the 12.

I was shocked. I am sure these pockets will each fit 6 pounds of something, but it would have to be about twice as dense as lead, I'd say. Maybe some kind of radioactive isotope, kryptonite, or solar plasma or something...

Thanks for the offer. I have not confirmed this yet, but I assume I will have some sort of recourse with my LDS. I should find out today. If not, I'll be in touch...

OK
I've really got the hang of stuffing weights in now. I actually managed to get 6 pounds of soft weights in their, but it is really hard to buckle closed. This is a shame becasue sometimes with my old BC, I like to put my weights on last after getting all suited up, since the BC was easier to don when lighter.

And, filled to capacity, once one of these babies is opened, there is virtually no way I can see closig it with one hand. A real shame becasue I have on several occassions taken out my weight pockets on my BC under water, shuffled some weights and replaced them. Admittedly, I cannot see many reasons for removing the weights and putting them back on underwter, but good to know that if one got "popped" by accident, you could get it relocked if you had to.

I looked back at my log and found that I have had as much as 16# in an ACB20 - configured as 2 x 4# solid weights in each side. I think 2 x 5# would probably have worked OK too - just never tried it.

A couple of thoughts:

1. There is velcro inside the pockets, which helps to keep weights from slipping around. You need to forceably open up the velcro to get the weights in.

2. Wetting the pocket prior to installing the weights might help.

3. Solid weights will probably work better than soft weights.

Good luck.

Actually, solid weight probably won't work at all. They don't mold to the pocket shape and you can't get enough lead it there.

Jag-you can add the weight insert after you don your rig-it just slips into the pocket and buckles. It isn't as easy as doing it beforehand, but if you have a buddy it's not too difficult.
