Oh come on!!

You put your point of view out there and it got challenged. It's not a personal attack. It's called a discussion. Then again, having one's opinion challenged can be unpleasant. Those who don't like it should avoid voicing them in an open forum.
What you have done to Scuba Schools of America.
The problem starts when someone don't believe as you guys do.
Because You think it's a noble cause it's Ok to question someones action in a public forum . When someone questions your you don't like it. This is the problem I have with selective activists.
I agree with your statement above.

It isn't about beliefs, it's about actions. When actions of a person or entity go against what I perceive to be ethical I try to speak up and suggest to the entity that they change. And, yeah, of course it's okay to do that in a public forum. What would be the point otherwise? Do you think I'll get a private meeting with SSA?

As for selective activists, could you please describe what a non-selective activist would be? Given the number of things one could be "active" about, being selective is the only option.

yeah, i would say that given our finite lives,
humans HAVE to be selective about everything we do.
in fact, we can't help but be selective. the other option
is impossible given mortal beings.

Agreed. You have to decide what is worth standing up for in life. Some of us stand up for many things. You will always have others who will deride your choice no matter what it is. For some reason, if you shift your focus to ecology and conservationism, the antipathy increases.

And for me the main issue is potted plants without proper drainage holes in the bottom.

Oh... and ochra. Nobody should be allowed to eat ochra.

You won't have to endure any derision from me, but I could certainly use convincing!

Hmmm. I think you *could*. Next time your travels bring you to Southern California, look them up. They are listed, easy to get to, and if you visit the shop, Rusty will spend time with you.

Neither defending or attacking what is on the video myself, you might find it an interesting conversation.

Hello again Dr. Bill !

I am going to Belize aboard the Nekton Pilot for a week of diving in Central Belize. I read in this forum that you had some footage of Belize. I was wondering if you would be so kind to share some with me.

Regards (and Happy Holidays) ,

Michael

gj62 - Understand yours. I'm not against commercial harvest either (I eat seafood that was taken by some commercial outfit). However, I think the "educational value" of breaking urchins open to attract garibaldi and other fish really is a very negative message, especially since you can attract them almost as easily by banging a few rocks together (just make sure you're not crushing any encrusting forms on the rocks!).

My irritation with urchin crushing stems to a large extent from watching it occur in the Casino Dive Park- a city-designated marine reserve since the 1960's. It is without question inappropriate there.

Christopher- still working about 90 hours a week editing te Belize-Utila footage but I'm on my last six dives now so there's light at the end of tunnel... and more time starting next week to dive!

Dr. Bill
