Does anyone know the meaning of the padi logo (the blue earth and the red diver)?

I don't know why/how it was decided to have it as a logo. Perhaps our wiser, grizzled members can jump in.

However, if you visit PADI HQ, you'll find a large number of artifacts and pictures from the early days of diving on display. Just outside the executive offices there is a vintage picture similar to:

I would estimate from the gear used in it, that it comes from the 50's.

He's definitely rototilling, but not with a Troy Bilt.
