Greetings!
I live on the North Coast of California (12 miles inland). My buddies and I do more free diving for Abalone & fish hunting than tank diving. A factor that makes our dive trips more exciting is that we are also pilots. Adding to the excitement of a dive expedition or vacation is flying ourselves to a destination, taking our own gear and whatever else we want. It is a freedom few enjoy, but if you are a knowledgeable diver, you understand there is a necessary lag time between tank diving & flying. This makes both activities dangerous (if you don't follow the tables) but makes for an awesome experience. There are hundreds of dive sites in the U.S., Bahamas & the Caribbean; flying there makes them more accessible. It turns out that there are very few divers that are also pilots, capable of flying themselves to adventure. We developed our own patch - The Diver's Wings. It looks cool on a flight jacket or on a dive bag. As civilian issue (not military), it distinguishes you, the diving pilot, as a member of the unique and elite class of adventurer.
Send me an e-message and I'll forward a scan of the patch, along with purchase details.
My promise to you - I donÃÕ share e-mail addresses with anyone!

Welcome to Scubaboard :)

Diving the North Coast is a always an interesting experience. We just had our club dive at Fort Ross last weekend with an excellent turnout. Flying to dive destinations is better, but as you said few can do so themselves. We are letting AA take us to Mexico in a few days though. If I owned a plane, you would often find me on Catalina Island for a weekend.

welcome aboard

Catalina is a greatplace. Lots of dives there. Thanks for your reply. I was interested in the site, so I went to northcoastdivers.org to register; I guess it takes a while for it to respond to my registering?
