Hey Fdog, how hairy is this? We've got a 12 ft inflatable and I was actually thinking about bringing it up.

Every time I've been in there, it was more intimidation than a real problem. The swells don't break there, they just slide through. The rocks are actually about 40' apart. We used a 16' RIB.

All the best, James

James,

Where do you launch at Salt Point? If there is a ramp there I must have missed it...I have only used the tiny road leading down the the cove but it ends at least 50 feet from the water and with all the huge steps and slippery rocks, I sure wouldn't want to carry a boat down there.

Brian

Brian, that's what we did. Backed the trailer down and carried it the last bit.

At the time, I was teaching for UCD, and we had lots of help from the students.

It actually isn't as tough as it looks. When we wern't diving we'd pull it up in the gravelly area with fist sized rocks.

All the best, James

I guess if there are 4 or 5 guys going it wouldn't be too bad to carry it down to the water. When I go it's usually just my gf with me and I end up carrying her tanks and bag down and back. Actually she wants to carry her own stuff but my gentlemanly upbringing prevents me from allowing her to exert herself...lol.

I have a 2 person Kayak that I bought last year and havent used it because it seems like too much trouble with tanks and all...maybe I should take it down there and try it out ab diving!!!!

Thanks

Brian

There is a nice small boat ramp for launching at Ocean cove, just south of Salt Pt. Its open during Ab season and has a camp ground too.

We stopped by Salt Point on our way to Sea Ranch on 8/9/04.
The water looked great and nobody there in the morning.
Had lunch at the south cove on our way home, there were three divers around the point in the south cove area.

The water was smooth and vis was great at Sea Ranch also. We went to a cove that was referred to us by a friend. Unfortunately the cove was choked by heavy kelp and I could only find small abs.

I did try a little farther out, but my partner (my daughter) was getting cold and I didn't want to take her farther out.
We came in and called it a day, no abs.

BTW... someone here posted to take a boogie board. We took two and tied them to the float. That was a great suggestion...thanks.
