I reckon this is probably one of the best starter cams you can buy. It is relativly cheap, takes excellent pictures and allows you to grow with lots of manual options much more expensive cameras don't even have. If you are really enjoying the photography there are many add-ons for this canon housing like wide angle and macro lenses and strobes.

Good choice and you can check my gallery to see what this type of camera can do (I have a70 the predecessor to the a85).

I have been using the A80, I don't think there is a single camera out there that gives you this much bang for your buck. Great camera, great housing, great price. I liked mine so much it convenced me to switch all my photo gear over to Canon. Have a look at my gallery, all my shots are camera housing only, no external lens, or strobe. I'm pretty tickled with them!

I just got back from Florida on my first trip with my new A85. I was pretty impressed with it. I'm a pro photographer but don't want to get into UW photography. I just wanted a P&S to take on my dives. I like that it gives me plenty of control and options yet is simple to use. The 8X10 prints I've made are pretty nice as well. My only complaint is the shutter delay but that's a problem with most P&S cameras. And I did start to get used to it. So my first impressions are pretty favorable.

A85 is an upgraded version of my A75. Fantastic camera, one of the best P&S digital values around. All sorts of features, great pictures, great battery life, full auto, full manual, and 13 modes in between.. and the housings are less than $200!

Ah, what's with the great white and no bars 'tween you and he?

Bit of fun I had earlier this year. I put a story up here with the pics think this should link to the post Link (click link). Wrote about a page about it

Aussie Diver:
Can anyone tell me what the difference between the A75 and the A85 is? Thanks.
Bottom line:
75 has 3.2 megapixels; 85 has 4.0.

Canon has really confused the heck out of their numbering here -- the first digit relates more to the number of pixels than the product line. The A85 replaced the A70; the A95 replaced the A80; the A75 replaced the A60.

The A80 and A95 are the only ones that really stand apart from the others in the series with features (other than the MP), as they have the fold-out screen on the back and the metal body.
