A way to convert first stage to DIN?

Is there a way to convert the first stage to DIN so that I can avoid having to use one of those bulky adapters?

Depends on the model. A number of Scubapro regs come with an adapter kit that removes the yoke and makes it a permanent DIN fitting (until you choose to put the yoke back on). Other brands will do the same if you pick the right reg.

Same with Atomic, and lots of other brands. Although like IanBrit said, in some product lines it will only be some models.
