I went to Margarita Island, Venuzuela in March 2002 to complete my PADI OW certification. I did the course and In pool sessions in Canada. I had been diving since 1995 (3 resort courses in different locations (26 dives in total)) I just never had the time to get certified before.
Anyhow, I had done about 10 dives after I finished my certification. A couple from Canada had never been diving before and were doing a resort course. They were doing their first dive after the pool session. The certified divers (me included) were telling this couple how safe diving is. We told them that they had a better chance of dying on the way to the marina than they would when diving.
As it turns out, we had a fantastic dive. They got hooked on diving from then on. Now here's the fun part. The truck the dive master was driving on the way back to our hotels, (we were passengers) was front ended by a drunk driver. Fortunately we were only doing about 10 miles an hour. No harm done to anyone. Anyhow After we found out that everyone was ok, we burst out laughing uncontrolably..
