A couple of months ago, I decided to pick up a travel BC and leave my jacket at home when I take my annual dive vacation. After doing some research, I settled on a Zeagle Express Tech Deluxe. My LDS doesn't stock Zeagle, so I would need to order it online.
I remembered coming across Zeagle Express during my research, owned and operated by Gene Heidenreich. He goes by "Capt Gene" here on ScubaBoard.
I gave him a call sometime in early December. He was very friendly and helpful, and we had a nice talk. He gave me some tips and tricks that I wouldn't have otherwise known or thought about. Often it was about ways to save money, not spend money.
So I ordered an ETD with the Ripcord weight pockets, back pad, a couple of D-rings and a crotch strap. Gene said he was out of stock but would keep me advised as to when the ETD would be available. The guesstimate was sometime in late January.
True to his word, Gene would let me know every few weeks that he hadn't forgotten about me and that I was at the top of his waiting list. I got the email last week that the ETD was on its way, along with a UPS tracking number so I could follow along on its cross country ride.
The ETD arrived yesterday safe and sound. Much to my surprise, Gene had already set it up for me by installing all the attachments. Very cool. Obviously, I could have done it myself but it was just a nice thing to do. This rig is exactly as advertised: well-built, well-designed and perfect for my style of diving.
I could not be more pleased.
So after reading more than a few threads lately about divers getting ripped off by other divers, dive shops and/or dive ops, I thought I would take a few minutes out of my day to post this kudos. It's gratifying to know there are still people out there who live by their word, do what they say they're going to do and then deliver even more.
Coincidentally, my Mom lives about 20 minutes from his shop, Aquatic Adventures. Next time I go to Tampa to see her, I'm going to make a point to pop in, say hi and go for a dive!
Thanks, Gene!
