This would imply that you follow the DIR discipline, while this....

Would imply you do not. So your original question appears unfounded in reality to some, who have tried to post their interpretation.

What mixes are you wearing on the right? All of em?

Very well stated.
I for one am confused as to what you are trying to learn by asking for DIR responses. When in fact you have disregarded the entire holistic system.

Clipping the spg to the hip is not DIR.
Wearing the light on the right hip and left hand is not DIR.
wearing stages on the left is not DIR.

But the DIR system does include all of these techniques into the holistic approach.
If you want a DIR response you must look at the entire picture not just one individual technique.
I'm sure that this was at least mentioned in your fundies class.
Huh Andy!

H2Andy:
then, i asked a question: would moving the canister to the left be considered
against DIR or is it one of those thigns that can be done both ways, such
as the light?

Do the purists really think you can go either way with the light-head or is that an if X then true scenario or otherwise debated?

All you need to do is start a local following and get them to all move the canister to start your own franchise,

H2Andy:
my question was:

why would having the light canister and a bottle on the left be so much more
difficult that carrying a canister and a bottle on the right (which i have already
done without any problems)?

Now that I don't think would be except for the d-ring. I'm just average diver but I use the clip-lighthead-right chest thought steps for storing my lighthead. If I had to clip anything else to the left side chest it'd cause annoyances, if you stow your lightcord over your longhose, it causes issues..

i don't know. to be honest, i thought it could only be carried on the left.

so, the reason why i threw that previous question out there about the silt-out, was that i've read trip-reports of cave 1 classes where it was mentioned that having the light on the right hand screwed everything up (but without getting into specifics). i was just speculating on the kind of things that might be, and hoping to draw out some people who have taken cave 1 and encountered issues with GUE line protocol and the light in the right hand...
In perusing profiles, it looks like Dan Gibson (and probably DIR-Atlanta) are the only posters in this thread who have GUE Cave training. The rest are NACD or NSS-CDS or no cave training at all.

But it was good question. . .

H2Andy:
i think calling someone a troll should be against TOS. that's a personal attack.
if you think someone is a troll, report it to the Mods and let them make a call.

Did somebody say AD HOMINEM!!!

Seriously, since this thread has a DIR theme to it I feel I should say I think your idea is byond the pale. What's next, hijacking a TOS violation?

well, you didn't shout ad hominem when people were calling me a troll

besides, don't sweat it... what i think should be against TOS carries about
as much weight as... what YOU think should be against TOS

*Floater*:
Right, because after DIRF you know everything.

Well, maybe YOU do, but Andy and I don't :)
I never referred to him knowing "everything" from fundies.. but the placement of gear and why it is placed where it is placed was really covered quite a bit in my fundies class.. was it not in yours?
Placement of SPG, light, etc. are basic principles.. not something that you don't hear until you hit Tech3.
If you think that was too far out of line, then maybe you and I took very different fundies classes.

i could bang my head against a wall just about now

look at my post 172
