Come on lets be reasonable the canister would create a very cluttered and unreasonable mess on the left hip when using stages.:14:

I think the quoted poster is reasonable in asking the question, I don't think I knew what a can light was let alone a stage or how it would have interferred when I was in his shoes.

I can understand someone newer to the sport asking the question, that's all I'm saying. :05:

NineGill:
What is the thinking behind stages on the left other than the light is on the right?

Years of experience that someone else earned.

That is to say, its how I learned it. It was already the norm when I got here, maybe someone will split it out to a new thread for ya.

if you're favoring running line on the left hand going in, and having the line on the right coming out, doesn't having the light in the right hand usually complicate a lights-out exit since your favored hand to grab the line with now also has the light?

anyone with cave 1?

If your light is out. Clip and stow it. Tuck in the cord. Why let it become an entaglement hazard that you can't see.

NineGill:
I'm sure I'm the least experienced diver in this thread, and I don't have a stage yet to try this config out with; I'm just throwing out questions so that everyone is clear on the thinking behind each gear configuration choice.

What is the thinking behind stages on the left other than the light is on the right?

stages on the left would likely obstruct deployment of the long hose. you want to keep the right side reasonably clean.

Wouldn't you just clip off the light head? Seems kinda silly to swim around in the dark with a broken light in your hand wishing you had that hand free...

jonnythan:
No, I don't think it would.

guys, if you think i'm a troll, then please don't post to the thread, ok?

this is really pissing me off. you can't ask questions without being called a troll
by some.

sorry, i meant siltout, not primary light failure. and when you grab the line with your right hand in a silt out you don't have the goodman handle in the way if its in your left, and you can grab the buddy in front of you with the goodman handle still in your left hand without it being too much of an obstruction, and then once you are out of the silted out area you just keep on trucking with the light in your left...

i use stages on my RIGHT with a canister light, and it's ok (the d-ring
is mounted on the canister light itself)

what difference would it make on the LEFT?

i can't think of any
