A question for 18watt HID users

Would you use a protector lens, if it was available, on the front of your Halcyon 10watt(old style) or 18watt HID to protect the test tube and bulb from damage??

Like a diffuser? Then no. I know some guys have made "extensions" to the head of the reflector to make the beam tighter and this could help protect the TT.

No, a clear lens, makes no difference in the light pattern, and allows for water circulation around the bulb.

Ok, I see. So would a "hood" or that extnded reflector cover work?

I made some protectors out of 3/8"lexan, with a thin dado groove (not quite 1/8" deep)on the backside that fits into the existing light hood, a piece of intertube finishes it off. It is bombproof, and extends the front of the light by about 1/4". I'm trying to see if anyone else has done this

Very nice. It must make the beem a little bit more narrow, which can be good. So, it doesn't cover the TT just extendes the refector cover?
