The fundamentalist wing of Scubatarians is such a small sect, I hardly believe they/we will have significant impact on the religion as a whole. They/we are still attempting to achieve salvation, albeit through alternative practices. It's all about the big picture of the common goal.

amen, brother mike. pass the sacramental kool-aid. we'll drink it with a snorkel in a show of togetherness.

I hope to get to worship with you some day BabyDuck.
Will you be attending weekend services at Gilboa this weekend?

i thought long and hard about it, but decided to worship at fantasy lake instead with brother jason, deacon of doubles. i get to do some advanced worshipping next weekend in the salt. but i know you'll have a great time advancing your worshipping skills with sister blondie and brother quiet but hilarious! and i agree that meeting you is definitely in the cards for soon!:)

Alas, sister duck, I may be communing with a fundamentalist deacon of doubles at Gilboa myself. I did commune with him there last weekend and found it to be a most religious and enlightening service. And I may need to experience the same religious ecstacy this weekend as well.

I've been contemplating taking some fundamentalist instruction, but I'm not too big on the flavors of Kool-aid available for communion. Why, oh why can they not use wine???? (I'm guessing that the snorkel would be available for usage as a holy vessel......)

DrSteve:
OK so this isn't humour, it's almost serious, but here goes...
1) The Scuba Religion. "Everyone" knows that life came from the ocean, "all" religions try and make you closer to god. 2) So I think we should found a new religion. 3) I haven't thought of a name yet but the idea would be to become closer to "god" by entering the water, swimming is OK, but the best way would be to scuba, every Sunday of course. 4) Of course membership of this religeon is very expensive and requires specialised training. 5) So the question is...will it be tax deductable?
I'll give my answer to this seriously then:

1) Many believe that life came from the ocean and many do not believe that. No one *knows*.

2) Hmmm... seems like there are already too many.

3) I agree that for the most part religions try to make folks *feel* closer to god, gods, God, whatever. Better to actually *be* closer IMO... though it certainly is a humblling experience.

4) I scuba sometimes on Sunday but the day of the week isn't important. And as for being close to God I figure the more the better! Psalm 107:23-24 (boating is good but deep diving is better.)

5) Most valuable things cost a lot... and yes, training is required.

5) Probably not...but then that shouldn't matter to a true devotee.

just a song i wrote some time ago:

I've been doing no reading
so I dont' have to write
i've been doing absolutely nothing for the last
forty days of my life

I went into a liquor store
looked at the prices
and walked out the door ...
i'm getting closer to God
I'm getting closer to God

Well i went by your window
and i stood outside
and i wanted to say,
thanks so much for being so nice

and the sky was so clear
and the stars were so bright
but your boy had a gun and he was coming outside
I'm getting closer to God
i'm getting closer to God

and i'll wake up one morning
and i'll be 65
and i won't have to worry about that
for the rest of my life
