as a general rule, I am not a bling guy. I drive a ford, wear bland chothes, always look for value dive gear (not cheap, but good price for the right stuff). It's never been about whether I could afford it or not, it's just been why spend money you don't have to. But, the one thing I've always coveted was a Rolex. Don't know why, it just is. In general I am a watch guy. I have several, including a fairly high end Invicta dive watch that my wife gave me for father's day. So I am envious.

You sound like you got your head screwed on right. ;) I never thought I'd have a Rolex, but when I became a Navy diver it was a status thing amongst the guys. I was young, so I bought one. After the first one blew up in the chamber, I needed to have something with a helium escape valve and at the time the Rolex Sea Dweller was the only watch that had one. Take care and thanks for your comments.

Wow, fantastic watch! And nice going on the trade too. I sometimes lose small items like watches, so no Rolex for me.

Today I got my first bp/w setup from deep sea supply. It's a torus 26, steel plate. The shipping guy at work just brought it to my office so I am trying to work instead of assemble...but it's hard. Can't wait to get it wet!

What is your newest piece of diving equipment? Is there anything that you've wanted, saved for and finally acquired? Photos?

My newest piece of diving equipment is some Miflex hoses, if that counts.

I've always liked watches but could never justify spending hundreds of £ on one. When my Dad died a few years ago he left me some money and I bought myself an Omega Seamaster which I wear every day. I even dive with it, but it doesn't fit well over my drysuit so it only gets worn abroad when I wear a wetsuit.

I bought a Rolex Submariner a couple of years ago, it cost me LE250 ($50) in the Khan-el-Khalil market in Cairo. I think it may be a fake though ;)

Not new, but new to me and long sought after, 1960's US Navy twin aluminum 90 cu/ft tanks and DA Navy regulator to go with the rest of my vintage equipment. I first lusted for a set of the tanks and regulator as a teenager.

Up 'til this afternoon my newest piece of equipment was ALL of my equipment! I bought the entire basic set-up in Aruba just before my final checkout dive. I'm kind of a gear weenie, I know ;)
I have a DeepSee warm water shorty wetsuit, a Sherwood octo, a SeaQuest BCD, a Cressi mask, and I can't for the life of me remember the brand name of the fins. I bought it all based on the recomendations of my instructor...from a different dive shop which he also recommended. Aside from being impatient about buying stuff I decided early on that I didn't want to trust my safety to rental gear.

Anyway...since you asked for my LATEST purchase...I just ordered a Suunto Vyper wrist computer. I went for the original, not the Vyper 2, because I wanted the option of going AI eventually and that seems to be the only difference between the two...the Vyper 2 is $100 cheaper and doesn't have the AI option. Can't wait to get it wet in a few more weeks.

It has been many years since I've purchased myself a new piece of diving equipment. Today however, I bought myself a Rolex Deep Sea. I'm looking forward to getting it wet. ;)

I purchased my first Rolex Submariner in 1972 when I went into the Navy as a diver. It blew-up in the DCIEM chamber in 1975, so I traded in the pieces and $550 and bought a Sea Dweller. I used it for the past 35 years and as it became a collector's piece, I had an opportunity of selling it for $17,000. It was time for another Rolex. It would seem that I now have a newer watch and about $9,000, which makes me think that the investment of buying a Rolex all those years ago was a good one. Obviously I'm a happy guy!

Druid, enjoy that watch! I bought a Submariner AND an Omega in a park in Beijing a few years ago for friends. Got two for $5 US after some tough bargaining. Are you telling me that they might not be real?:shocked2:

As for actual scuba equipment, just got a Panasonic Zs3 with a Panasonic housing. Haven't gotten them wet yet and haven't gotten comfortable with the switch from Canon to Panasonic yet.

Congratulations on the new toy. You can now shed about two pounds off your dive weight!!!:shocked2:

I looked at the Deep Sea, put it in my hand, felt the weight then bought the Seadweller 4000 instead.:D

As far as new piece of diving equipment goes, here she be. Less than a week old.

My newest dive gear purchases have been a new Mares X Vision Liquid skin mask in Hot Pink, a replacement dive float, SI tech quick connect dry glove system, and installing a pee valve on my drysuit.

Oh and I am getting (for free) two new batteries for my camera from someone on SB how does not need the batteries since he does not have the camera anymore that they fit. That was wonderful and like xmas all over again. Hoepfully they will be here in a few days.

A Sea Dweller and a Doxa? You must be a collector! Both are fine watches, but obviously I much prefer the Rolex. :mooner:

Not a collector but more of a toy gatherer.:D You can't have a serious selection of dive watches without a representative from Rolex, Omega, Seiko, and of course Doxa. I also prefer the Seadweller. The heft and size of the Deep Sea were the two factors that turned me away from it. Also the titanium alloy backing as well - actually that's the biggest factor for me because my skin is allergic to titanium alloy. Learned that irritating lesson ten years ago.
