About a century or so ago, the Pope decided that all the Jews had to leave Rome. Naturally there was a big uproar from the Jewish community.

So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Jewish community. If the Jew won, the Jews could stay. If the Pope won, the Jews would leave.

The Jews realized that they had no choice. So they picked a middle aged man named Moishe to represent them. Moishe asked for one addition to the debate. To make it more interesting, neither side would be allowed to talk. The Pope agreed.

The day of the great debate came. Moishe and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute before the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Moishe looked back at him and raised one finger.

The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Moishe pointed to the ground where he sat.

The Pope pulled out a wafer and a glass of wine. Moishe pulled out an apple.

The Pope stood up and said, "I give up. This man is too good. The Jews can stay."

An hour later, the cardinals were all around the Pope asking him what had happened. The Pope said, "First I held up three fingers to represent the Trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions. Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground and showing that God was also right here with us. I pulled out the wine and wafer to show that God absolves us from our sins. He pulled out an apple to remind me of original sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?"

Meanwhile, the Jewish community had crowded around Moishe. "What happened?" they asked. "Well," said Moishe, "First he said to me that the Jews had three days to get out of here. I told him that not one of us was leaving. Then he told me that this whole city would be cleared of Jews. I let him know that we were staying right here."

"Yes, yes,.. and then???" asked the crowd.

"I don't know," said Moishe, "He took out his lunch, and I took out mine."

I like it!

But just on a point of order, are we going to get the same debate about political correctness and the necessity not to offend various sensitive ethnic groupings as we have had in the 'for all you patriots' thread in this forum?

Irishdiver.

Nope. Now this is FUNNY.

Okay, Northeastwrecks, but the difference is...WHAT?

Are you just less sensitive to religious satire than you are to political satire?

Not spoiling for a fight...just asking.

I believe the difference is that in the patriot thread, it was Wreck Writer who was questioning it, and it is Northeastwrecks responding here. Both are wrecks, but not the same wreck... :D

Irishdiver,

No. I like satire of all kinds and am not politically sensitive. I will return fire when remf's sound off about things that are best left to those who know what they are talking about, but that also had nothing to do with the joke.

I just didn't find that other joke funny. It had nothing to do with the fact that the President was mentioned (my dancing GWB screen saver proves that). Its just that I've heard it before and thought that it was tired back then.

Besides, you'll note that I said to leave it and let people form their own opinions.

This joke is clever because it shows how two people can interpret an event in two completely different ways.

On a shallower level, I just liked it.

BTW, best regards and welcome to the Board.

CaveDiver, I can't be too wrecked, I'm diving this weekend.:D

Hi Northeastwrecks, and thanks for your welcome...I'm really enjoying myself here, even when I get flamed in other forums!

But back to business...don't you think it's odd that you can see the satire in this joke where two people interpret things differently, but you have difficulty seeing the irony in you interpreting things from a totally different stand point to somebody else in the patriot thread? Or maybe I'm missing something?

I believe that you might be missing a couple of points.

First, I didn't vote to remove the post (I did forget to mention that in my earlier post). I would leave it up untouched.

Second, the original poster does, in fact, have a history of bashing the U.S. on this Board. He has also alluded to an expertise in military matters based on his work as a civilian TechRep (or whatever the British call them). He also admits that he wouldn't join up unless they gave him a cushy desk job.

I truly doubt that his comments, including anything related to the friendly fire post , was meant in anything other than a malicious way.

Okay Northeastwrecks, I bow to your experience. I have to plead ignorance here, because I'm a newbie. I'll hold fire for a while to see what other posts this thread brings.

Dive often, dive safe. I'll follow your posts.
