Sea Dogs out of Daytona has a great charter. You'll find some good ocean diving in Daytona and I'd give it a shot. Daytona has lots of wrecks and is typically exploding with marine life that time of year. They allow spearfishing too if you want to add some more excitement to the equation (not to mention dinner!).

Thanks for all the advice. I think I will try to get a day in with Sea Dogs while in Daytona, hopefully hookup with someone another day while in Daytona. I also plan on heading to Jupiter for a dive, does anyone know if Jupiter Dive Charters will take on a single diver? I’ve e-mailed Captain Paul about this but have yet to hear back. Again thanks for all the help and I will be in touch with those that are interested in getting together for some diving.

Would you recommend heading to Jupiter or West Palm Beach? WPB would be about a 10 minute longer drive but just wondering if there is much difference between the two. Thanks.

John

i think it would depend if you have a favorite dive op

dive wise, they are very similar (if not identical)

They certainly will take on a single diver. If you are asking if they will go out with only ONE diver on the boat.. well that is doubtful. Most boats have a minimum diver requirement.

I would get your date set, then post a thread in the FL trip forum saying when you are going out. Eric is generally up for a Jupiter dive, and there are MANY FL locals that may be interested!

I'd love to join you, but it's a bit of a drive!

My experience is that Jupiter is a deeper profile, and is more dramatic.

I've only done each site a few times, so I'm not expert. I have better memories from Jupiter, but I'm sure on any given day one can be better. Both are drift dives.

Capt Paul runs a VERY nice boat, and I'd say go out with him. He does a 3 tank dive on some weekends, but I think that is seasonal.

I'd pay for SS 100's if you do Nitrox.

Thanks for the info. Everyone says that Nitrox is highly recommended when diving in Jupiter. I am not currently Nitrox certified, would it be worth my time and money to get certified before this trip. The only problem I have with it is that my regular dive buddy, my brother, won’t be nitrox certified on future dive trips. I feel that taking this class may be a lot of money for a max of 4 dives. What do you think? I will post when I have my dive setup. Thanks again.

You may be able to get nitrox certified on line for very little money - Divers Direct was advertising a course for $99 - check around; do some research. I think it was all on line too - no dives. I gave one as a gift last Christmas.

I think nitrox is worth it even if you dive the more conservative air profile of your buddy - you are going to be safer, even if you don't get the benefit of a longer bottom time.

Many Jupiter divers use nitrox, and 100+ tanks; in every dive briefing they give the sugested time/profile for an air diver on tables (no computer) - you will not feel uncomfortable if you dive air. Since Jupiter Dive Center, for example, lets you do your own dive - you dont have to stay w/ the dive master - and makes multiple pick up's - no one cares; if you finish your dive sooner, you stay on the surface, or more likely, the boat picks you up - you are not screwing up someone elses dive (like in Cozumel, for example) by surfacing faster.

WPB and Jupiter are similar; larger animal life for whatever reason in Jupiter; the reefs/ledges similar - I think Jupiter has some of the best diving in FL.
