Hello all,
I've been all over the internet trying to find a guide for diving and camping in California. I've found one or two for Southern California, but I've yet to find one for Central/Northern Cali. Anybody know of one that is geared toward this? Just need a listing of camp sites that are linked to some good diving w/info on the dive sites(topography, conditions, entry recommendations). Thanks.

Thanks guys. Shorediving.com is a great site, no doubt, but divers don't visit that site quite often enough so alot of the info is outdated. The "Best Shore Dives" book has info on Southern Cal diving, but nothing for up here. I think I probably own every shore diving book for Northern California (exaggerating). Only thing is, I was looking for something that might list campsites and their ammenities as they pertain to diving. Oh well, maybe I'll just write one over the next few years...

Thanks for all the recommendations and I'd love an update if anyone finds anything out.

Thanks again.

Where do you plan on diving and camping? The North Coast has great camping and diving spots. Ocean Cove and Gerstle Cove are great diving and camping spots. I've been to both places and have enjoyed ab diving, spearfish and just plain old sightseeing. There are a lot of locals on this board that can tell you about more spots. PM renpirate, ZKY,scubacowboy, and BrianM.\ and they can help you out as well.

Thanks Ericson. Is there any decent shore diving from those two particular coves or are you pretty much required to own a boat/kayak? I live in San Francisco, so anything north of here sounds great. I'm not much of a hunter but love some good old-fashioned tank diving. Are these the coves for me? Thanks for the help.

Oliver,

Yeah, these are great shore diving sites. 99% of my dives are shore dives. Just note that the north coast dive spots are a bittle more rugged than Monterey/Carmel dive spots. Viz is usually lower, water temp a little colder, but awesome topography, invertabrate and fish life. If you like, we can plan a dive up there sometime. PM me your info and let's plan something.

Yes, the SoCal book is great. There's also a seperate book for both the Monterey area, and Northern California.
