you know i never knew teaching a quadpalegic age 30 would be so much fun. I was going for my master diver. I always wanted to teach disabled people to dive.My close freind dave volenteered to be guinny pig to help me learn-he was a quad PVA. He was a fish in water. And we already had a trust repore with each other. We had done all our mask stuff. we figured out his balance. (he had use of arms not hands) Well we were in a public pool on a hot day in florida. Well the babes were out that day. Well I could not get dave from wanting to be underwater. (wonder why-lol)Plus he would float like a cork. Well i fliiped him on his back to breath (no snorkel) gave him some ideas on how to clear him mask to try. OK -back face down. im standing next to him. This gorgous blond came by in the skimpiest bathing suit and i started talking to her (being macho) and forgetting about david. David tapped me- i didnt feel it- he tapped me again-didnt feel it - THEN WHAM an elbow in the nuts and i said "oh" I fliiped him over and he started to yell at me .... Until he saw the girl i was talking to.. well he was as impressed by her too. So he told me "he would have done same".
He went on to learn and finish, We rigged an underwater scooter for him and he was a fish and free from his chair. And as usual faster than me (electric chair). I will never forget the joy that diving brought to him and me. And the bond in our freindship. I miss him. Dive well -dive deep my friend.
