Hello all! I am glad I found this site. I got my cert through SSI last year and headed off to Cozumel - it was awesome! I hope to make it back there very soon!

I do have lots of ear problems equilizing and have done a lot of research on this. I do have allergies (and devated septum) and my doc gave me some other meds to take before/after I go diving to help clear my up (he is a diver also). I just went to the lake over the weekend and my first dive went pretty well and on my second dive I couldnt get my left ear to equilize.

I really hate how my ears make the flutter noise like crazy coming up hitting about 10ft to the surface.

I hope with more practice to get my ears working better. When they do - I will be diving at least twice a month.

I ordered the DOC vented ear plugs to give them a try - waiting on them to come in.

Hi coastergz, welcome to ScubaBoard, good luck on the equalizing. When I first started diving I though I would have problems from a previous sinus surgery, but got lucky, no problem.
Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the board! It sounds like you are ahead of the curve on your ear issues. My ex-wife couldn't go below 30' until she had sinus surgery, to correct blockage apparently from a previous sinus infection. But after that she dove just fine! Keep after the M.D. to resolve it and feel free to ask out here, everyone here is wonderful about helping other divers.

Welcome to SB!

When I was a kid I thought I had bad ears and couldn't dive. Then I learned a little more and got certified. The more I dived the easier it was.

Now, many years later there are more resources available that would have saved me lots of time and trouble if I had them then.

Go to;

and watch the streaming video, "The Diver's Ear - Under Pressure".

If nothing else, the more you know and understand the better.

Hmmmm, another from Oklahoma.

I would sing you something but in my last rendition of Oklahoma the musical to Teresa38 I pulled something.

But what the hay, Welcome to ScubaBoard :D

That was singing?:11: I thought maybe you dropped your new doubles on your foot. :scubadive

That's a great link that Pipedope gave you. My grandson injured an ear free diving to the bottom of a swimming pool, and I just sent it to my daughter. :yelclap:

You will also see this problem covered on various forums around our Matrix - New Divers & Those Considering Diving, New Divers & Those Considering Diving, or follow this path to the experts: ScubaBoard.Com > Scuba Diving Central> Marine Science and Physiology > Diving Medicine :lildoc:

:cowboy2: don

Oh, as you can see above, we do try to have fun here :whack:
