I had the exact same problem using my DR Transplate and my HP 80 tanks. The STA hits the tank boot and the top cam strap is too high on the tank.

To fix this, I took the top cam strap from being threaded through the STA and threaded it through the holes in the back plate and wing that were about 2" lower.

You could do the same thing with the bottom strap but it's not really required.

Works perfectly and the tank is nice and secure. PM me if you want a picture of what I'm attempting to describe.

FlyGuy,

YOU ARE THE MAN. It's fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!!!:D

SeanQ:
If you're careful with your tanks you can prevent them from getting scratched up. When you're shore diving lay the rig down so the cam buckles are touching the ground. When boat diving the tank should be secured to the boat so there is no chance of it tipping over anyways.

What type of exterior finish is on the tank?

hot dip galvonize.

Simple - 2 piece STA.
Take your current STA, cut out the center section. That way you can position the two pieces anywhere along the plate to acommodate whatever tank you're using.

You still have the problem, if it is a problem, of tank positioning. It's farther down on your back than it should be, and you should see if you can reach and manipulate the valve underwater, and it could possibly advsersely affect your trim.

K: after you cut the middle out, how would you hold the pieces in position if they're not at the bolt holes?

The upper STA half should always work with one of the existing locating holes in the B/P. With the E7-80's and small tanks like that, the problem is the location of the bottom half of a single piece STA. With a 2 piece, the upper bracket can be put in any of the 3 holes at the top of the B/P while the lower half of the 2 piece STA can be positioned anywhere along the slot to acommodate positioning.

I dive an E7-80 from time to time and ran into the same problem. My one piece STA woudn't allow proper positioning for proper trim. I simply sawed out the middle section, filed down the sharp edges and had at it. Works just fine.

Needless to say, the wing that is incorporated into the rig will have some effect upon the placement of the 2 piece STA, also.

Unfortunately, no, I can't.

Well I guess that depends on the BP... my Halcyon BP only has two holes. One for the top and one for the bottom :)

That's the main reason I didn't purchase a "H" wing, limited adjustment.
A red hot tube and some grommets can fix that . . . :D

Actually if you use an empty .308 brass to melt the hole it'll make it's OWN grommet when the case neck hits the wing material. ;)
