Im heading to Cairns, Australia in June and in need of a thicker wetsuit. A 5mm was recommended but I was thinking of a 7/5mm. Would this be overkill?

It's says air temperature is average 78 and water temp 70-74

7/5 for me or even a semi-dry. It would depend on how many dives per day you are going to make and how long each dive is going to be. If you will be making several dives per day for several days, You are going to be getting colder and colder by the day, don't think of just one dive in one day. :)
