The best shot is diving at 100 fsw or deeper at dusk or later at this time of the year. Here in Puget Sound they haven't been around recently in the numbers that were here a few years ago.

The seattle aquarium has a cage, bait, an entire underwater laboratory strictly for the six gills.
And they havent been coming around much.

Now it's going to waste.
 
A buddy of mine who works in the Alberni Inlet and Barkley Sound just found this floating around...so we know there out there...
