Some research...

Have looked through the PADI manual and done some internet searching to no avail...

Has anyone heard of a basic 5 rule system (the five most important safety rules in diving), from which agency, I know not....

rule number one: dont forget to tip your instructor...

rule number two: buy your instructor dinner

rule number three: remember your instructors birthday

rule number four: your instructor is always right

rule number five: the only person more important than yourself is your instructor..

2) beware of internet posers

I don't. Sounds to me like he's asking for information from a particular cirriculum. He just doesn't know the souce.

I think it's a great question, actually, and went looking. Lookit what I found! :)

Okay, so it's not five rules, but it's something! ;)

The 5 most important safety rules in scuba...........drumroll..........

#5 Never dive alone......well...unless you're by yourself that is.
#4 Make sure your knife is larger than your buddy's....u/w altercations, while uncommon, always seem to go to the larger knife.
#3 If you are fully geared up and the boat is really rocking, try and fall on the largest person, it break your fall much easier.
#2 Avoid person you just fell on, they may be somewahat irritated at you and they might just have a larger knife.
#1 If you find that you are lost u/w, heck don't come to me , I'm probably lost too!

Are these the rules you're looking for? I could not find them in the PADI literature but then again isn't it time for a revision?

yeah the only ones that I know are - Stop Breath Think Act.
But these are 4 not 5, unless I'm mistaken in counting :D
