I'd have no problem allowing someone to wear goggles, especially for contact lense/medical reasons.
Its certainly not prohibited on standards as far as im aware.
As for what to wear, don't do what i did, a pair of swim shorts that fitted me when i arrived in April but due to losing 30lb in weight in those 4 months didn't any more. I lost them somewhere around the 150m mark.
