The hard part for me would have been wrestling the kid from the struggling parents - especially in a Middle East county. Great to her ZD3D is organizing the classes.

A big THANKS to you guys from a diver who's been the recipient: as a kid, I was a poor swimmer and had to be resucitated THREE times (the last time with chest compressions) after near drownings in the pool. I was just damn lucky there were always adults around to help me out.
Needless to say, I grew up with a strong fear of water and that's one of the reasons I learned to dive - to help me get over it. Diving has given me so much confidence in the water. After I completed my 100th dive last month, I just sat there on the boat for a moment, with all my gear still on, thinking back on how far I've come, with a silly grin on my face.
For me - every dive is a victory against that "evil drowning monster". But your post has reminded me again of how lucky I am.
I am a firm believer that EVERY parent should know CPR - for their own kids and for others. You two are real HEROES - take a bow!! :luxhello:

Wow, after three near drowning incidents I think I would have moved to the desert! Congrats on fighting that fear!
I believe any person who is able should learn CPR and First Aid. It is a skill we all pray to God we will never need, but when it is necessary- it is really necessary. Incidents like these only further drive the point home.

Any update on the child's condition?
Great Job!.. I have been cpr/first aid trained thru my job for many ,,many years...during training it was hard to pay attention sometimes because we had been through it all so many times...The instructor would always get our attention back by reminding us that we were more likely to have to use our training on a friend or someone in our own family than we were to ever use it on the job....and I learned through experiance that he was right...

I have 2 grandchildren. One lives in Omaha and the other here in Tampa. I have a pool in my home and I almost lost my (now 19yr old) youngest when he was 3 to a near drowning. When we purchased our home I was determine to teach him to swim. Within 2 weeks he learned. Now I'm trying to convince my oldest(24) that we need to enroll his 6 month old daughter in swimming classes. I am getting resistant from him. But sooner or later I will get it done.

My friend Maury lost her first son when he was three due to a drowning. She just stepped away for a sec.... His name was Robert, same as my youngest.
A couple years ago, I had a friend here with their nine month old. I was blown away when she put her in the pool and show me how the child could float.

My daughter learned to "find the sky" as an infant and then the float & swim to the edge. Priceless and easy enough for infants to learn.
"Turning Wheel"..
I was saved from drowning in a lake at 7 by a an angel of a young woman. (Wish I knew where she is.) At 18 I rescued a drowning victim (almost took me with him) and about 12 years ago (my job required me to maintain CPR cert) I came upon a scene where an elderly gentlemen had been hurt, was not breathing and was turning blue. Someone else was doing rescue breathing and asked me to take over (as I said I was trained)
Now granted, all I did was sweep his mouth (I could see his chest had not been rising), but found that he had swallowed his dentures when he fell and struck his head. They were obstructing the air passage. But hey, the training payed off. The guy lived.
