I'm a Fish!
So we get up to Honolua this morning and a DLNR guy is standing there and tells us that they've shut down because of 3 Tiger Sharks in the bay. We go around to the north side above the cliffs so the sun is at our backs and sure enough there they are, in the shallows at times, maybe 5-6 feet deep cruising around. The large one was 12-14 feet long. As long as the inflatable. Another DLNR guy is in a boat trying to chase them out it appears but they showed no fear of the boat and when he stopped they would actually circle him. Every so often they would surface. At first we thought there were only two but we saw 3 at the same time.

So we dove Airport instead and had a great time :)

Nope, wish I did. If I had brought my digital with the 500mm lens I would have had great ones, but I was diving and didn't want to leave the expensive camera in the car for the thieves.

Them Maui tigers is fierce. A few years ago, there was a spread in Hawaii Fishing News which had an article and a few pics of a tiger decapitating a bull off of Hana. Apparently, the bull had stumbled into the water, got disoriented, and started toward Kona. These guys in a boat saw the bull and were trying to lasso it to tow it back to shore. Then Da Man in Grey showed up. Nipped off a foreleg before doing the guillotine bit; and I mean with one bite, the whole head was gone. .....Tigers give me the willies; magnificent animals but thinking of them always resurfaces thoughts of packing a Rhett McNair fastload.....

They are in charge down there

If you prepare yourself to not be a victim, and you determine that you are not going to be lunch, and you assert your humanity and place at the top of the food chain as the planets true apex predatir, and you pack your appropriate weapons, and are determined its you and not sharky that is out of his element, and are fully and appropriately geared for this ecosystem encounter... well, you get the idea.

That was maybe what, 14 if's????? :)

I have seen them while diving before and it was uneventful. They are beautiful creatures but, common sense is important

Just curious Ken, what would be the appropriate weapons? I like having the upper hand.
Them Tigers sound pretty scary.

...the Jewfish: 1 Idoit Kebob: 0 thread. If you missed it, I highly recommend reading it - it was a lot of fun. Assert your place at the top of the pyramid, strap on your bang stick and dive without fear among them, knowing you've determined not to be lunch.

Or something like that... Some interesting views on sharks in that thread.
