I'm a Fish!
Sorry for the late posting...

On 3-8 we did a dive at Del Monte Beach for navigational skills...there was a class there for tech divers/rescue going on...we ran our skills on the lawn area till all went well and was understood then we took it to the water...Everyone performed the skills very well...the vis was 10-15' and I saw lots of sand dollars, crabs, snails ...I thought it was a very interesting landscape...very different from the kelp beds...water temp was still around 54 degrees and the swells were down making an easy entrance and walk out exit..

We went to breakwater at 5pm to fill our tanks at Aquarious and to have hot clam chowder at the deli...there was a lot of night divers hanging in the parking lot and filling tanks...the cutest two kids were filling their tanks...one wearing a black sweat shirt with a skeleton on it...anyone own this kid?...nice kid...anyways, we got ready and went into the water as darkness fell...with all the divers entering it reminded me of the turtles that lay their eggs and then try to return to the sea at night...

I love the night at breakwater...the fish come out of the woodwork...the sand worms are in full bloom...and the starfish are booking it!!..

We spent the night at our fav. comfort inn and had the comp. belgian waffles in the morning before going to Monastary...The swells were comming straight in from the west making it a ugly entrance and exit for the students we had...we decided to take the dive to Mc Abee Beach... This was two beautiful dives...easy entrance and exit with 15 - 20' of vis...our first dive was to the south in front of El Toritos...we saw a moon snail, and a Monkey faced eel.

On the second dive we went straight out on the north end of the cove toward the red bouy...we saw 4 live abalone...a very large lingcod with a attitude...jelly fish and lots of nice size rock fish, blacks and olives...We all had a great time..the temp in Monterey was 70 degree's with lots of sunshine...

Nice report!! And mmmmmmmmmm waffles!!! :drooling:

Curious how many divers were in your group and what time you did your 2nd dive. Did you have a long surface swim at the end?? We saw 3 divers surface around 12:30 or 1 pm about midway between the north end of El Torito and the entrance to the MacAbee cove. Long swim back.

That was probally Dave and one of his divemaster canidates and a advanced student...they went in that direction and the student leading has had a problem with paying attention to his compass and the dm canidate wasnt shadowing well...they missed the turn into the cove and dave finally stopped them and brought them up to get a compass barring or they'd probally been at breakwater...he had enough air to drop down and follow them in underwater...they got to swim...nothing teaches you to pay attention like a little swimming...been there ,,,done that...

the student I was with did great...of course I kept an eye on our location (didnt want to repeat a long swim)...but he did very good...we went straight out and turned around and swam right back to the beach...each ending with over 500 psi's...

Nice. I sat there, having lunch, feeling somewhat sorry for those three divers - that was a heck of a surface swim......
