I don't think I can watch my football team anymore. They're gonna cause me to have a heart attack.

4 OTs. Geez.

At least you came out on the right end of it!

Didn't take Houston Nutt long to find employment. Ole Miss hired him today to replace Ed Orgeron. Something smells a bit fishy...

Yeah, and I'm sure Randy Sanders was crying in his beer over that. :lotsalove:

We're not bragging yet. LSU will be tough to beat, especially after that wake up call against the Hogs.

Tuberville is supposedly getting a new 7 year contract that will raise his salary to $3million a year plus bonuses and raises every year.

I would hate to see him go, so that sounds good. But I sure wish we would place some of that monetary value on the work some of the rest of us do. It would make it a whole lot easier to support my scuba habit.

I know what you mean. These guys are overpaid in my opinion.

But professional sports atheletes are worse. I think A-ROD just signed a 10 year $270 million (or close to it) deal.

If Tubberville leaves, there is a $6million buyout clause on top of his salary paid. ($3million/year)
Shula is laughing all the way to the bank as Alabama is paying him $4million to do nothing.
Saban gets $4million per year.

Arkansas news is now reporting that Tubberville is getting a 10 year $37 million dollar offer from University of Arkansas.

I would hate to see him go. If he is really interested in the welfare of his assistants he won't go anywhere for another year. My parents are retired teachers in Alabama and the Teacher Retirement System is a really good one. Most assistants don't stay in one place long enough to ever be vested for retirement and unlike Tubby they don't make enough to not have to worry about retirement. If he leaves, I'm sure he'll take at least some of them with him and whoever would come in behind him will probably want his own set of assistants. Which will leave them one year shy of a nice retirement that they have been contributing to for 9 of the required 10 years.

The news today said that he wasn't considering the Arkansas offer and that he was trying to get better facilities and more money for assistants at AU in order for him to compete in Atlanta (SEC Championship). For facilities, one of the things listed is an indoor practice facility).

While I understand exactly what you are saying, the assistant coaches knew this was a big possibility when they signed up for their job. They never expect to make it to tenure in the retirement system for RSA or other systems. They might might be employee's of Auburn, but they also aren't paid on the same scale as the rest of the staff at Auburn either.

Some of these assistant coaches make several hundred thousand dollars per year. So they are definately compensated much higher than your average teacher at the same institution. I've seen a chart somewhere at work that has what the major assitants at SEC universities make. I'll try to find it first of the week.

So... their position might not ever get tenure, but their contract might not even allow it in the first place since they are paid directly from the athletic budget and most have no teaching responsibilities. It'd be interesting to read their contract to see...

I know you can read some of the coaches contracts online. I've got a copy of Nick Saban's contract. (I'd post it but it's too big to attach. I can email it though if anyone wants it).
