For what its with, we now visit Indonesia annually so be prepared.
We must be infected with the same bug. It started annually and is only getting worse (2X/year).

Thanks to everyone, the problem is every time someone mentioned someplace new I start researching that and just get lost.
Just some more info.
We both enjoy slow, meditative diving , my wife more so than me, so we’re prepare for the muck.
Timeframe is April and we really will only have two full weeks, maybe a day on one side or the other. We do not need constant diving and activity and in fact sometimes enjoy land based than liveaboard (usually combine them) and are fine with island rot setting in.
I’ve got 1k plus she has about 800 dives and we’ve done yap, Palau, Galapagos, fiji. Indo just seemed so far away.
Live on the west coast USA and suspect this will be one of many Indo trips.

Lembeh-Bangka easy peasy combo, you can do forest trip from Lembeh in Tangkoko Park. Lembeh is going to give you great muck and Bangka reefs and walls and some macro. You can also just sit out diving for a few days and keep a hammock employed.
Or since you might be transiting thru Bali it has wonderful topside with temples, rice terraces etc. Great diving there too. Tulamben for more macro and the Liberty wreck, or Penida for drifts, coral gardens and Mantas.
Since your most likely going back (you will) no worries on missing something.

Chris, I will make it easy for you.. Do a week with us in Bali and a week with Simon in Lembeh...
Not bad at all,
But so far I'm not able to stay in NAD.
4x trying to book, but always full or in maintenance.

In planning a Raja Ampat trip, we found some airplane connections that were very convenient for us (we are also from California).
We flew to Singapore, stayed overnight in the airport hotel, flew to Manado in the morning. You will find that Lembeh resorts are happy to pick you up and you will be in the water that same day. We stayed in Lembeh (Kungungan Resort) for 4 days and then caught a short morning flight (Silk Air) to Sorong to meet up with our dive boat. This was MUCH easier than the trip to Sorong by way of Bali. It is very important to note that this flight is only twice a week so you must plan accordingly.
A completely different trip might be to go to Wakatobi. It is a quick flight out of Denpasar, Bali. We've been there twice. You could opt for the resort one week and the Pelagian dive boat the other week. Their concierge service at the airport is truly amazing.

Nomad Divers on Bangka. The best reef diving I've ever seen. About three hours from Lembeh (taxi / boat).

I know. I hesitated. But Nomad is a great little family owned resort on a great little island. I just couldn't help myself.
