Thought this might be of interest to y'all as well. it was taken from the accidents/incidents section

There was a group of young males that were out at 3am snorkeling and they decided to see how far they could snorkle back into the cave down in Florida.

Yes I said snorkeling into the cave.

I think they were trying to breath off the air pockets in the top of the cave.

They had one set of snorkle gear and were taking turns swimming in and back.

After one of their buddies didn't return for 20 minutes, they started to get worried and called 911. They didn't have a second set of snorkle gear to try to save him, which prob kept them from having two or three funerals instead of one.

Well he drowned of course, doing 'cave snorkeling'. Go figure.

You can't keep folks out of the cavern. You can only keep yourself out.

"He did run out of air," (the deputy) said. "He was diving with two buddies and, at some point, got separated from the buddies."

(the deputy) said (the deceased diver) and his friends were not actually cave diving, but they were diving in an area that would fall under the category of cavern diving — where an overhead obstruction does not allow direct access to the surface, he said.

You can't lose your buddies at Morrison's large cavern(or the shallower one for that matter unless you try pushing the small, silty passageways(cave)).

He ran out of air. That ended up taking the lives of several OW dives last year, in OW. If there was a gear malfunction at Morrison, you can be out of the cavern entrance relatively quickly - although that wouldn't be necessary with good buddy skills. You can get to your nearest buddy quicker than to the surface, which won't be a problem, since there is nowhere for them to hide in Morrison.

Circumstances are significantly different - this isn't an apples vs apples comparison.

Monday's incident marks the second diver death in less than a week, with the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office reporting that a certified cave diver from Virginia died last week while diving alone in a spring along the Suwannee River.

Lafayette County (deputy) said last week that the body of (other deceased diver) , 53, of Charlottesville, Va., was recovered Thursday in a remote spring in northwest Lafayette County known as Allan Millpond Springs.

(other deceased diver) was reported missing Wednesday when he didn't show up at a friend's house in Alachua County, and searchers located his vehicle near the spring run that leads to the Suwannee River.

Certified cave divers from around the area were called in to search for (other deceased diver) . They located his body about 300 feet from the mouth of a shallow cave, and by looking at dive journals, investigators said (the deceased diver) apparently had been inside the same cave as many as 40 times before last week's fatal dive.

D'Oh. Paulwall beat me to it.

All caverns aren't created equal, I've stayed out of several caverns that I've had access to for the simple fact that I found they had silty bottoms, not alot of room, or whatever other reason. Do you homework and don't do anything blind.

Morrison, like Ginnie, is fairly OW friendly as long as you can maintain yourself and your buddies. There are some other caverns, that aren't so forgiving. Whats so difficult in understanding that?

This is the point i was trying to make earlier. But really only people who have been there will understand this.

How much you want for your HP-100's? :D

Um, excuse me. They are LP95's and an HP 119 (and a set of "beach doubles" and a 30cuft Pony...em... stage bottle (ponies will get me killed quicker than kiss-a-duck)). Find me a cavern above the flood line and they're yours!:D

_______________

From the moment my eyes open in the morning, I am aware that any action or inaction on my part that day could result in my death or serious injury. I understand that living is an inherently dangerous undertaking, and I accept responsiblity for myself. I assert that I am at least vaguely aware of the conditions that may face me that day, but acknowledge that situations may arise which I have not previously encountered and vow to apply previous experience, common sense, and whatever resources are available to successfully endure such situations.

If, after all of that, I slough off this mortal coil, I agree to absolve, God, Mother Nature, and the Cosmos (doing business as $hit Happens, LLC) permanently and completely blameless.

If my injury or demise is due to the action or inaction of one of the other yahoos occupying this planet, whether such action is intentional or merely negligent, I will haunt you and your progeny 'til crack of doom.
