I have a Scubatools inflator hose plug in IP gauge, bought some years ago from Scubatools previous owner. When tested against both an inline gauge and a plug in gauge by a tech whom I respect, my gauge shows IP consistently 15psi higher. I just allow approximately that amount and move on.

Sounds like a gauge accuracy issue and not a connection location issue. Where you connect may effect the dynamics of the IP changes but should have no effect on the final stable IP reading.

Have you figured out whether the Scubapro seat will work yet? I think that could possibly be a deal breaker if they do not. Of course I don't know for sure, but if the Tusa seat has a raised dimple and the SP seat has a recessed dimple, isn't it possible (likely?) that the piston will be too short to utilize the SP seat, assuming it is the correct diameter. I wasn't clear from the earlier posts as to whether others have successfully used the SP seats. From what I've seen on the Tusa sub forum, they don't seem to support their products for too many years after they quit making them. They did have a trade in program, but that defeats the DIY bug in me.

No I have not determined if it will fit yet. I have a feeling it will not just from the measurments I took the other day. Looks liek its teh same height but diameter is different. The dimple is only about 1/16th tall, not sure if this would effect the operation or not if a flat seat was used. It looks like maybe the piston has enough travel if the dimple wasnt there but would this effect the operation at all? I wouldnt think the pressure in the IP area would change since the spring and ambient pressure would remain the same. I could probabaly flip it over and try the flat side but the dimple would get in the way of tightnening the housing down. I thought there was a thread on here about pressing out your own seats out of HDPE? I couldnt find it in the fast search I just did from here at work though...have to look later....

Well got Vance Harlows Book in last week. Looks good. Lots of info. Waiting on some adapters to make a an IP gauge now before rebuilding this reg. From the measurements it looks like the old seat will not interchange with the SP seat so I am going to try and reuse the old seat but I also got a local lead on some HDPE rods that a guy told me he might be able to get me a couple of inches of sample material. If it looks and feels the same I may try that out and see how well it holds up. Its all a learning curve on this reg and its not my main diving reg so it will be fun to test if the old HP seat wont work. Thanks for all the info so far!

One more small item. If you're modifying a compressor gauge to use a an IP gauge, have a look at the air inlet fitting. If there is a restrictor there you'll have to drill it out or you'll get some odd readings.
