The articles I read seem to vaguely suggest around 150ft.
You may well be right. Or, the articles also said he did not want to be specific and give too much information to protect the location from other divers. This guy sounds like a real asset to the diving community that he makes his living from, so the 150’ may well be intentional misinformation.

Knowing the depth of water in that general area, I would not be surprised if the depth is closer to 130-140’, not that it matters, other than the depth being a key piece of detail to help locate the wreck.

If I do get to dive that wreck this year, as is my intention, I will write up a trip report here on SB. How often is a Submarine wreck discovered in the U.S. at a divable depth.

I just spoke to one of the dive shops who told me there are no commercial dive boats or boats that can be chartered in that area. There few that there are, are on the South shore. Then the word is the guy who found it will put restrictions on it so that other people can’t dive it, salvage rights. The only way to do this would be to be able to find the wreck and get there with a personally owned boat before you can no longer legally dive it.

Well, you can forget about this Submarine.

Y'all need to take video for the SB report too, so those like me that cannot dive below their rec pay grade, but can live vicariously through the hard work of the tech divers out there with cameras.

Those that have been following and guiding me to buy a whole load of Tech equipment last year know that I am not yet a Tech Diver. Last year was equipment purchase, this year is training and hopefully a lot of wreck diving, with particular emphasis on U Boats and other U.S. Military wrecks all over Florida. I am expecting to get done as many of the following TDI classes as possible

Intro to Tech
Helitrox
Extended Range
Trimix
Advanced Wreck
Advanced Trimix

I have been trying to buy Faber HDG LP 85 doubles since November. That is the last thing I need. I placed an order with Leisure Pro / Scuba and they feel they will have them assembled and ready to pick up at the end of May, which suits my schedule fine.

The latest update on the Defender Sub is I saw an article today that now says the Commercial Diver who found it will announce the exact location after he is done mapping it out. So that means will might be legally possible to dive it, finding a boat to take us there is another matter. If anyone knows of a Boat on the North Shore of Long Island who can be chartered or a privately owned boat who is willing to take a small group of us, by all means let me know.

I do not have a video camera, my detailed AAR will have to suffice. I expect to do many AARs from all over Florida to include Aircraft Carrier, Heavy Cruiser, Destroyers, Destroyer Escorts, etc. and up the East Coast this year, I hope.

If someone can provide a link to a Go Pro and a really high end waterproof housing for it with a very deep rating, I may consider that and then would be happy to try to post some video clips with my infantile computer skills. Then you can live vicariously thru me until I get lost, entangled or run out of gas.

Here is the housing for various models of GoPro:

Backscatter out of California carries them...

This one is the one to get? The depth rating will work.

I don't have a Go Pro. I may buy one if the members here feel they would like to see some video. Is the Hero 11 the best one? Just what I need, more gear clipped to me. I won't need any lead.

I do not need to live through the actions of others that lead to any situation that may cause a negative outcome. A dive report will be just perfect.

LOL. Let's hope things go smoothly.
I might get the Hero 11, seems like that would be the best one. When I do the AARs, with the vast depth of knowledge here, the members can tell me all the mistakes I made on my dive so I can fix that before I do it again.
