Question for anyone who has been on the Mr. C. Is there room to bring a hard case, like a pelican case for our gear? Or just a soft sided duffel type bag.
Packing now, see you HT Saturday.

Probably too late to answer you, but you can bring hard case on Mr. C. It's just that there's going to be some cramped storagte quarters. It's always best to bring soft bags regardless of boats.

Anyway, Anacapa backside was sweet. We went to Landing Cove, Garden Spot and Cathedral Cove in that order. Viz was around 20-ft but water was high 50s, low 60s. Minor surge and zero current. The south swell was blocked by the island. No sun at all so we didn't get the pretty underwater color, but the air was warm.

Highlights of the day were one big bad bat ray probably 5-ft wide. A sex orgy of massive black sea hares with tons of spaghetti eggs. A sea lion came and played with everybody. A cormorran (or at least that's what I thought - brown bird with webbed feet) cruisin' underwater at around 40-ft depth right around us then it sped up to catch a blacksmith fish. When it sped up, the feet were churning water so fast, they caused cavitation. Bubbles were coming off like a nuclear submarine's propeller going into haul ass mode. Its underwater maneuverability was awe inspiring. The fish couldn't get away despite darting all over the place.

Saw a small octo hidden back inside of a crevice. At Cathedral Cove, there was one gigantic lobster - man's thigh, walking around. Nikki and I corraled so that Dwight could take some video and photo. The sheepheads started to surround it to do an Alamo on its ass. I felt bad so before we left the scene, I came over, grabbed it by the antenna and freed it from the rock. Knock on wood, it went off into parts unknown.

Saw a bunch of Spanish Shawl but didn't see any other nudies. No horned sharks either. Thursday, there were a bunch of black seabass following the divers around but no joy for us. Oh well, them's the breaks.

I was slightly out of practice for half of the first dive but then things kicked in and it was just like yesterday, I was in the groove.

Thanks to Nikki and Dwight out of Hollywood Divers to keep me company.

Glad you had a good dive HT, wish I could have made it but I'm out of town this weekend. Hope you have another good day on Saturday.

Hi Rex,

Catalina was incredible. It was a damn shame that you weren't there. We went to Johnson's Rock, Landing's End and Black Rock. All three sites had super calm water, flat as a pancake, no wind, hardly any current and bare a surge even by the rocks. The kelps were green and stood majestically tall, especially at Landing's End.

Saw several fat Horned Aolid nudies in addition to Spanish Shawls.

What is it with the massive black sea hares? They were having group orgies here too.

At Black Rock, I saw a black sea bass passing by but didn't stop. Not too big, probably between 5-6ft. It cruisin' by and half of the school of baitfish took off with it while the other half remained in the area.

It's nice to see some green lips scallops. One of them was at least 8" in diameter.

There were two newbie divers on board so we spreaded them up between our groups so that they can have some fun without worrying too much.

Dennis's son Kyle gave me flashback to lumberjack camp but it was all good. And yes, LeeAnn, the hamburger was quite juicy and tasty.

Overall, a great day of diving. Only had the sun came out...

Oh yeah, water was warm too. I think the lowest I've seen was 62-F at depth.

It was a good diving day. VIS not to bad, water average around 64, not much current or surge.
Good variety of fish to be seen in the kelp forest. I enjoyed the food, my veggie burger was good.
Bunks were comfy and I didn't mind not having the privacy curtains.
No lobsters caught, but several seen on the last dive.
My boy had a great time as it was his first dive post OW cert.

I had a great time! I've got a bunch of photos to upload - will try to post them a bit later today.
