Probably too late to answer you, but you can bring hard case on Mr. C. It's just that there's going to be some cramped storagte quarters. It's always best to bring soft bags regardless of boats.
Anyway, Anacapa backside was sweet. We went to Landing Cove, Garden Spot and Cathedral Cove in that order. Viz was around 20-ft but water was high 50s, low 60s. Minor surge and zero current. The south swell was blocked by the island. No sun at all so we didn't get the pretty underwater color, but the air was warm.
Highlights of the day were one big bad bat ray probably 5-ft wide. A sex orgy of massive black sea hares with tons of spaghetti eggs. A sea lion came and played with everybody. A cormorran (or at least that's what I thought - brown bird with webbed feet) cruisin' underwater at around 40-ft depth right around us then it sped up to catch a blacksmith fish. When it sped up, the feet were churning water so fast, they caused cavitation. Bubbles were coming off like a nuclear submarine's propeller going into haul ass mode. Its underwater maneuverability was awe inspiring. The fish couldn't get away despite darting all over the place.
Saw a small octo hidden back inside of a crevice. At Cathedral Cove, there was one gigantic lobster - man's thigh, walking around. Nikki and I corraled so that Dwight could take some video and photo. The sheepheads started to surround it to do an Alamo on its ass. I felt bad so before we left the scene, I came over, grabbed it by the antenna and freed it from the rock. Knock on wood, it went off into parts unknown.
Saw a bunch of Spanish Shawl but didn't see any other nudies. No horned sharks either. Thursday, there were a bunch of black seabass following the divers around but no joy for us. Oh well, them's the breaks.
I was slightly out of practice for half of the first dive but then things kicked in and it was just like yesterday, I was in the groove.
Thanks to Nikki and Dwight out of Hollywood Divers to keep me company.
