Choose wisely who you put in charge, and then give them the authority and resources to do the mission without micromanaging.
The more I read the detail of what was accomplished, the more I wonder if the mission could have been led at all by a single person in charge. The model of multidisciplinary teamworking appears more appropriate here.
Are you saying it would have gone better if one person had been in charge and giving orders to all?I've seen multidisciplinary teamworking in action, and the meetings alone would have taken longer than the rescue.
