During one of the surface intervals on the trip from Alona Beach, Bohol to Sumilon Island, Cebu on Dec. 3 our boat moved in close to shore near an area called Oslob, Cebu. We witnessed a small group of locals in banca boats feeding a Whale Shark in about 20 feet of water. The animal would periodically surface, open it's mouth and allow the men to feed it. The men also were able to pet it. One of the men told me the Whale Shark arrives every morning waiting to be fed. For a fee of 100 Pesos they will take you in one of their small banca boats to get a closer view and/or snorkel with the animal.
