That's great, but that's got nothing to do with why this thread was started.
Actually, I think it does. The OP was trying to help me out. I doubt he wanted to hurt your feelings, and I know I certainly don't. He was just showing his passion for his favorite surface interval. Take a deep breath. It's all good. AND, he has helped me considerably by reminding people it takes time and money to operated ScubaBoard. If you can donate, please do. If you can't or won't, you're still more than welcome.

How do you really know how/why this tread was started? Did you create it?

No need to vilify anyone over this. Our intent in creating this, and I believe most people's intent in having the banner, is to advertise the program and our need for the program. Every time someone sees the red ScubaBoard supporter and decides to go red, it's another success. We need your support and we love when peeps display their support.

Not my intention to vilify anyone, sorry if I came across like that, just wanted to point out the difference between a donation and paying for something.
This forum is great and the people donating (or paying because they want that sweet shiny red name) are to thank for keeping it alive, and that's also great.
What's not great is taking stabs at people for not donating.

Maybe I'll donate too sometime in the future, maybe I won't.
But guilt tripping people and basically calling them cheapskates probably won't win over too many people to donate I'm afraid.

Maybe, but others may see it differently.

So I went red for less than the tip for a nice dinner with friends...
EXACTLY! If it weren’t for this site, I most likely would never have found Morgan’s Restaurant on Cayman....the tip would have covered four years of donation o_O....great restaurant by the way!

Something which I have never done.

Scuba Diving is a sport of passion. Often times, you either hate something or you really like it. When you encounter some one who's really, really passionate about something, it can be a bit off-putting. The OP expressed his opinion about this. Again, I don't think his intent was to upset you, but to promote becoming a supporting member. As for "winning people over", we've had the biggest increase since we were sued by she who shall not be named. So, job well done and I hope he resurrects this thread in a few months! :D

I know you haven't, and I don't think that was the intention with this thread either even though it can easily come across that way from reading the OP, arguing/discussing online is very hard since we can't interpret body language which is a very big part of how we interpret the other party :)
I'm extremely passionate about diving and most of my social circle just rolls their eyes when I start talking about it, just the same way I do when they start talking about football, hockey etc etc, it can be a bit off-putting at times for sure :D
I'm glad there's been an increase because this forum truly is amazing, and once I can figure out how to stop spending every last dime I can spare on my diving (and other hobbies) I might donate as well.

This thing needs to be locked. Far too many nice people are coming off as asses due to defenses of defenses of other people that made defenses by people that are supposing things about a vague and touchy subject.

(Yes, I understand that I can walk away. I will try to stop rubber necking and move on.)
