I'd be tempted to visit Guanaja Island just because it's there, but that might not be your best choice. I don't know the reasons for wanting a Master card, but some do. It seems to be mostly a matter of paying the fees...?

Otherwise, sounds like you have a great plan beyond FIBR with your dad. :cool3:

I'll give props to Illini fans for one thing - they know they suck, and generally remain silent when sports talk comes up. ND fans can absorb a lot of flack from certain schools as of lately but thankfully for me the Illini fans are definitely not in that group.

They do have a great mens gymnastics team, however. If you are into that sort of thing Coincidently, the mens gymnastics coach lives next door to me. He won a bronze medal in the most recent Olympic games, so that's kind of cool.

I hear ya on Guanaja. If a ferry was an option, I'd be there. Paying a chunk of change for an airplane ride - not so much.

As for the Master cert... Just cause I suppose. I'm doing the EAN course, and want to do the equipment repair course as well. Those 2 courses I'll do regardless. I feel rebreathers are the future of our hobby so maybe a good course to take at some point and I think a propulsion adventure could be fun. Granted not really helpful as I likely wouldn't use one again, but like I said, that could be a fun dive zooming aorund for awhile. That leaves one specialty and as bad as I am at UW photography I'm sure I could learn a few things in their class. Or perhaps the peak performance bouyancy. So maybe not so much doing it for the Master Cert, but just taking the cert because I'm interested in doing all those courses with or without a Master Cert card.

I understand there will be a very friendly PADI instructor in your group at FIBR who might be willing to offer a few specialties... Hmmmm.

Diving with coconut tree should help out with the social scene; there are lots of friendly people usually hanging around the shop. As far as getting to Utila, consider Vern's catamaran which leaves right from the CTD pier.

I may be going with a friend to dive a few days. If we go in April do you think we'll have any problems just showing up and finding a dive outfit and cheap place to stay without reservations, etc. I've never been to Roatan but would like to keep an open itinerary as possible. Would be possible to jump over to Utila for some diving and come back the same day? We won't have more than 4 or 5 days in the islands..any tips/suggestions ceratinly appreciated

A few general suggestions...?

I don't think you can get to Utila, dive, and get back the same day. For 5 days or less, I'd pick an island and enjoy it.

Since your kinda new (very?) to diving, I always suggest hiring a private DM for the first day. Money well spent.

Make sure you have DAN's dive insurance, at least the middle one. The cheapest one is a dog and only $10/yr cheaper.​

Look around the threads, read some, develop more focused questions, and start a new thread with your plan maybe.

In football, yes we stay very quiet, but Illinois usually has a decent basketball team recent Eric Gordon fallout aside. And one of the best pro golfers in the world, Alum Steve Stricker.
