Coosachief & I are going on a short cruise to Cozumel and will only be in port 1 day
(12/12) from 8AM - 5PM. We don't want to depend on the excursion from the ship in case it doesn't fill but also don't want to risk not making it back to ship. Any suggestions on good LDS to use that would pick us up at the ship and bring us back?

Also - would booking both morning and afternoon dives (2 tanks each) be a good idea to get the most out of our diving time? Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated - this will be our first time diving without friendly faces with us to show us the way.

In a few minutes you can walk or taxi to Aldora Pier depending on which cruise ship pier you land. Try Aldora, Aqua Safari or Blue XT Sea as they may pick you up if you need to. You didn't mention if you're bringing your own gear. Most boats leave at 8:30 for morning dives, some will go later for the cruise passengers. You might be tight if you try to get four dives in and leave at 5. Book direct with the dive op, not the cruise ship. I would stick with the small boat operators, not the cattle boats. Try Cozumel - ScubaBoard for a lot more help from the Coz regulars. Have fun!

4 dives is tough to get on Coz. 2 morn and 1 afternoon might be feasible. The key thing to remember on Coz is, to have fish or shrimp tacos at Camilio's for lunch. If you haven't done that, you haven't been to Coz. Use the chipotle cream sauce on the table in healthy portions.

Diving with Alison is a good op to go with. Here is her web address:

I second Alison. My daughter and I dove with her right after my daughter got certified. She's a lot of fun and very accommodating for cruise ship folks. You can take a taxi at the cruise dock and be at her boat The Maximus in 10 minutes. She also has AL100's available. The Santa Rosa Wall is a fun dive.

2 years ago I used Eagle Ray Divers. They catered to my group since everyone wanted to snorkle but me. It was just me and the dive master. Great dives with no huge group. We only had 6 on the boat.

I hope you enjoy Coz more than I did. It was Ok, but nothing like I thought it would be.

I will save my vacation money for Florida Keys. The Keys exceeded my expectations, whereas Coz was kinda disappointing with exception to the beautiful color of the water.

Just my $0.02 worth.

I third Alison. Very accommodating to all levels of divers

I'm very surprised at that - maybe you just had some off days. I've been to the Keys many times and found Coz better in every regard (except you can't eat the lobsters ;)). I hope you'll try it again. Coz is pretty special.
