I too have allergies & when I get congested I can have trouble clearing. If I have congestion, I seem to be more prone to having water that enters my ears during a dive stay in my ears & this sometimes causes a popping/crackling. If I am not diving again i have found that a decongestant &...
I seem to remember from my university days that we always used to say that the cutest guys drove the most beat-up cars....but then again I may just be feeling defensive of the ol' VW Super Beetle. Mine was yellow, no sunroof but she was in great shape with eye-lash headlight attachments and her...
also looked at the Diving Concepts suit but being Canadian, a customized Bare is less expensive (since Bare is a Canadian company & local for me) than a Diving Concepts. I've only done about 5 dives in it so I'm still working out some bugs (I have very narrow feet & althought the boots are the...
your SPG reading on the tank with your buddies SPG reading on the tank? Hard to tell otherwise. Although in the heat of the summer many tanks are a bit "short" on fills. If in doubt, have it checked though. A SPG that is not accurate is not something you want to dive with until fixed.
While a poorly fitting mouthpiece could cause a gag reflex to be triggered, it is more likely to be triggered by a mouthpiece that is too large/long and hits the back of your mouth (not one that is too small). As well, if a mouthpiece is going to trigger a gag reflex, it would happen as soon as...
We also had a great time diving and just meeting & talking with everyone (as Grateful Diver mentioned, we all talked for quite some time after finishing our last dive). Bwerb & I had some trouble with tanks...we drove down from Vancouver, Canada & after arriving & hooking up our gear, realized...
My hubby and I have always said "It's not a sport if it can't kill you!" .... but then we tend towards adventure sports (rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, scubadiving)! Regular "sports" like golf seem like past-times by comparison. Although if golfers continue to be killed on a regular...
We should move this thread to the humor section and rename it "creative ways to wear a snorkel"!! LOL pt40fathoms!
Cornfed, I would have loved to see that DM's face!! LOL. After doing the DIRF in Seattle in 50 degree water, I think I could do an entire dive without my mask in the tropics -...
My hubby & I were certified in Maui through Maui Diving & our instructor was Dan. Routine was the same & Dan is very experienced as both a diver and an instructor. He has done everything from cave diving to running a dive salvage company. I highly recommend him as an instructor & many things...
We are currently looking into possibly doing a carribean dive trip & have found lots of information about how much people liked various places but its hard to know what to think if you DON'T hear anything about a place/operator. We'll steer clear of Divi! Thanks.
Thanks for the report Cal71, a six gill sighting is incredible!! Were you at Alki? We've heard several reports of a six gill seen on night dives in that location.
Obviously there is still a lot about the giant pacific octopus that we don't know. Amazing video - I wonder if the octopus regularly feeds on smaller sharks or if it learned that wrestling manouver after it was placed in the tank. I know they are highly intelligent. One of our diving friends...
that causes leaks. If its not the obvious hood under mask skirt, loosening your mask strap may help but I have also found that the position of the mask strap on my head makes a difference. If the strap is too close to the top of my head, the hood rides up bringing the strap with it & the mask...
or is it third...the comment on adding air to the suit. Only do it to release suit squeeze (and just in really small bursts)...do not use it to control bouyancy...that's what you BC is for. For some reason the PADI class stresses that it is too "complicated" to control two different bouyancy...
Good questions everyone to suss out what the actual circumstances are. I agree with Walter & Braunbehrens. If your oxygen exchange is impaired by tachypnea & shallow respirtations (fast & shallow breathing) with the snorkel in your mouth then you are not moving enough air. The CO2 build-up...
I'm not sure what size they are, but we attached our BP to the wing with black zip ties (the ones that are UV rated). The zip ties are inexpensive to buy, fit easily into your "save a dive" kit & don't require any tools to replace. Of course you need to watch them closely for wear over time. :)
A 36lb. wing will allow you to do some cold water diving (this is what bwerb & I use & we drysuit dive in 40 - 60 degree water), but shouldn't be too large for what you are doing now. As ERP said, you will have to change a couple things when you get into tech. diving but that should be a while...
