Unknown Large party of divers in trouble, one dies at Cirkewwa, Malta

It's a great dive site but the main exit is very rocky, including variable depth. I wouldn't want to try and exit there with rough seas. Afaik the people staying in the water definitely took the right decision. Maltese rescue services are active and vigilant to my knowledge.

Unknown Large party of divers in trouble, one dies at Cirkewwa, Malta

I just saw this article on Dutch news and it raised more questions than that it answered so I looked it up: https://www.timesofmalta.com/article/search-divers-way-four-assisted-medics.1089890...

Going through the airport with my gear for the first time

I went through Malta airport customs last year with a full kit (checked). Big dive bag. I flew Air Malta and got a special sports equipment luggage voucher so I could take >20 kg in one bag. No issues, although I had to open it when leaving but that was done with in less than two minutes...

Any rumors on the Garmin descent mk3 display?

Not quite sure where you took that from, but the mk3i here is eur350 more expensive and the t2 is eur 100 more. To me, that's more than a bit. It's three years and a lot of inflation further, ok. Better tech, sure. Much better screen, of course. But to me eur350 is just too much. There is a...

Any rumors on the Garmin descent mk3 display?

I'm looking forward to the reviews. Especially of the tide tables and dive maps -that seem to be included- are any good. But again: the price.....

Any rumors on the Garmin descent mk3 display?

I wouldn't say on sale (pff steep price!), but it's officially out. Also on Dutch garmin pages. https://www.garmin.com/nl-NL/p/852159/pn/010-02752-11

Cave diver drowns - Jackson Blue Springs, Florida

That may be true, however Google sees it differently. Like Aftonsplash said, he/she got here through Google and many would not first read through all the forum rules. I agree that it may be unwise for those grieving to read this part of the forum, but that doesn't mean we could try a little...

Military saves distressed diver - Malta

I was there at that moment. We just finished diving at the P29 and were enjoying our interval on land when we spotted several divers just off the bouy that hangs over the p29 wreck at Cirkewwa. That happens more often (things go wrong) but these folks (5 or 6 I believe) stayed there. After a...

Solo diver Fatality in the Grevelingenmeer (Zeeland, Netherlands)

Last Sunday, a diver was found at the Dreischor Frans Kok Rif divesite in the Zeeland province in The Netherlands: Duiker omgekomen bij Zuid Langeweg Dreischor. According to the report, the diver was diving alone. I know the site quite well and it's a very benign, easy divesite. No current...

    Question Axiom bc size

Parzdiver is not wrong and fitting is always important. That said, i have roughly the same measurements as you state and own an Axiom the L fits me just fine. Best of luck! I love mine.

What is the appeal of Lake, Cold, Low vis diving?

Warm, cold, salt, fresh, I don't care that much. I just want to dive! If I were to live on the Maldives, then I would most likely only opt for warm water dives. But I don't. It's the cold, murky salt/fresh waters of The Netherlands for me. And once or twice a year somewhere warmer with better...

Do not ever say you are a rescue diver

Apart from -maybe- diving in the litigeous US, I don't see the issue. My highest cert is RD. If they ask, that's my answer. To my experience, your card usually means little to dive outfits (unless maybe DM or higher). Directly after that, they always ask my # of dives (which gives some clue...

Scuba accident in a swimming pool close to my house

I have a little more news, well at least a report that has more info. I have no idea how credible this source is. https://aanamstelveen.nl/overleden-duikinstructeur-had-luchtfles-in-handen-op-moment-van-explosie/ According to the Dutch story, the instructor was standing at the edge of the pool...

When diving with an AI computer do you also use a Redundant/backup analog pressure gauge?

I have been diving AI for 3-4years now and always keep my spg with me. My transmitter can bug out (it has twice, battery died) and i'll always have the opportunity to still dive.

    Low/Limited Visibility Distinctive PADI course.

Haha, not in Holland I don't, but in warmer climes it does get good. I've seen some small wrecks in good vis conditions but diving the Hermegildo Capelo in Portugal was more imoressive due to limited vis 20-30'. You slowly see a black shape looming below you that just gets bigger and bigger...

    Low/Limited Visibility Distinctive PADI course.

Hi, I have never heard of such a training, but can understand the possible benefits to divers who are used to 100' visibility. With such divers, suddenly finding yourself in <1' visibility could cause disorientation, panic and/or claustrophia-like symptoms, especially if you add other stress...

Bad breathing gas on liveaboard trip

It's a pity that such a company has such a shocking disregard for diving rules, safety and service. Frankly I'm not surprised by their lack of reaction but that's my cynicism. Two possible lessons (maybe) from this case: 1. All divers on the trip should have immediately ceased all diving as a...

    Suggestions for cold water regulators?

Miast if not all should suit all your needs, save maybe a few because of the ports. You can figure that out. The choice is then mostly price and local availability of maintenance. My choice was an aqualung legend. I use 2 hp ports for an spg and AI pod. Very happy with it. Best of luck.

    Another Bonaire fatality

Apart from the specific case, which is sad, the number of incidents at one place to me is the odd one out. Past Covid infections may be a factor, lesser physical fitness or any other factors. I have no info on them but i can imagine that having an effect. However, that should be apparent at...

Dry suit training in the Netherlands

I usually dive with Het Duikhuis, based in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Nieuwegein. Some of their dives are in Vinkeveen, close to Amsterdam. I know they do dry suit specialties, I took one of them. To me they're a solid, reliable and fun outfit. Best of luck, cold water diving is lots of fun too...
