Is certification necessary for shallow water diving?

This actually got me thinking about when I've been asked for a card. Overseas, pretty much always been asked to see a card. Back home in the UK, I don't think I've ever shown a card for air fills, entry to inland sites, dive boats etc. I've no idea how the number of uncertified divers compares...

4-Skills Every Advanced Open Water (AOW) Diver Must Have

Ah that makes perfect sense! I'm also not a massive fan of the kneeling on the bottom teaching style but seems many of our instructors are a bit old school and a little hesitant to change.

4-Skills Every Advanced Open Water (AOW) Diver Must Have

I thought that mid water dSMB was at the dive leader level? It was my understanding that Advanced Ocean/Sports dSMB lessons were supposed to be conducted on the bottom. Just double checking as my club has a few trainees who should hopefully complete their dSMB lessons next weekend and wanted to...

What do we think about taking rescue course with rental gear?

BSAC recognise Rescue Diver as a Sport Diver equivalent, not AOW. Agree on the drysuit point; it wasn't something I really considered until I crossed over. Source: Equivalent BSAC qualifications

    G7x vs G9x

Been looking at getting into underwater photography and have came across the G7x MKII and G9x MKII and was wondering what the main differences are between the two? Is the extra price for the camera and housing of the G7x worth it or not?

Could you clarify what you mean by plenty of air left? Are we talking like 100Bar/1450Psi or something completely different?

How to get in the door: Support Diving

I don't have an answer for the question but the way I would interpret the question would be: "How do I become a diver for NASA or other organisation"

    A-Clamp or DIN

I am thinking about purchasing some regs but I'm not sure if I should get a clamp or din I plan on using the regs in both warm and cold water. Also any suggestion as to which model to buy? Thanks in advanced!

"Family of drowned Tennessee diver sues dive shop"

So if all his equipment was in working order. That would mean that the problem would either have had to have been with the gas he was using or his training. Right? But then the artical says that he was trained by a certified instructor. So would that make the instructor at fault? Or does that...

    Which configuration do you prefer?

If both hoses are black then I guess the best think to do would be to go diving in a pool with a friend and practice out of air drills with both set ups and see which one works best.

    Which configuration do you prefer?

If it's bright yellow it should be easy enough to find. Also that would mean 2 people have to swap regs instead of just 1.

    What do you consider new?

How do you decide if a diver is a new diver? Amount of time certified? Number of dives? Highest certification?

How do all these gopros get lost?

I'm sure that with 5 pages of responses what I want to say hav already been said but here goes: From what I've seen, new divers with cameras are more interested in there little piece of tech that they don't pay attention to the group and get lost and panic forgetting they have a camera and they...
