Is there anywhere left in the Caribbean with healthy reefs in 2024?

This question, I think, will be coming up more and more often in the next few years. The Cayman Islands were considered some of the best diving in the world. The walls, coral formations, color, abundance of life, and the Cayman vibe made it a diver’s bucket list destination. The problem is a...

    Lack of shops in Longmont

Colorado Springs has a population of over a million and they have one dive shop. There were a few quite awhile ago, but they weren’t profitable. Owning a dive shop is definitely a labor of love, and most people nowadays need to run a business that actually makes money! So, while there is a gap...

Closed WTB men’s medium 7-8mm wetsuit or semidry

Have you looked into Hollis Neotek 8/7/6? (I'd suggest a ML for 5'7" 150#. They seem to run a little small) This suit works incredibly well in our cold water rental fleet.

    Question Favorite resorts in Cozumel.

I have stayed at many places on the Island over the last 25 years. Presidente is my favorite. Great pools and swimming area. Good shore diving. Close to the reefs. Not far from town. Great onsite restaurants. Spacious, comfortable and clean rooms. There are sometimes really good deals offered...

    Aqualung Fusion gone?

I talked to the guys at Whites. They are back in business and no longer part of Aqualung. Will be good to stop by and see them in Victoria this spring! The suits that they had on display at DEMA were all new versions of the Fusion.

    Bare 3mm vs 5mm Sizing

I regularly dive Lake Superior, Vancouver Island, and Mt Lakes.(In Drysuit) It is cold water (37°-47°) but I rarely ever get cold. The coldest that I have ever been is diving off Molokai in Hawaii. The water was about 75°. Core temp is 98.6°. After a few dives, core temp starts to drop a little...

    Bare 3mm vs 5mm Sizing

We are a BARE dealer. I generally either stay with the same size, or go up a size for thicker neoprene. Never have gone smaller for a thicker suit. The Reactive 5mm is a fantastic suit. If you would like, PM me with you height and weight. I know the BARE line really well and can tell you if the...

Question Separate pool equipment for DMs/instructors?

I own a shop and have to replace suits, booties, and BCD’s more frequently than I would like. When customers purchase new equipment, we suggest that they try it and do final adjustments in the pool, then rinse it and keep it out of the pool thereafter. Chlorine will fairly quickly be the...

Grand Cayman coral - white like snow

I dove GC one year ago, before the high temps of this past summer. Everything was already dead. It isn’t a singular issue. It isn’t solely bleaching, or solely SCTLD. There are a multitude of factors, including high plant nutrients and phosphates in the water, due to fertilizers, treated waste...

    Stick-on readers for masks.

I've experimented with quite a few stick on lenses. I found that using Dishwasher Safe Glass Glue (comes in a small super glue like tube), and strategically sticking the reader to the outside of the mask window, works great. Trident Reader lenses are great. Don't use the glue that comes in...

    Osprey Transporter 90 or 120?

I've been using the Osprey Shuttle 130 (which is pretty big!) and travelled to Fiji, London, Italy, Galapagos, Philippines, Palau, Curacao, Cayman, Cozumel and more with it... never even a tiny problem. Weight seems to be the only issue. You can put a lot of stuff into a big bag!

    Osprey Transporter 90 or 120?

The 120 will still fit airline dimensions. I'd go with the bigger bag. It doesn't have to be packed completely tight, and you have some room to bring goodies back home with you. The Shuttle 100 is my favorite bag.

    Atomic Z2 vs Zeagle F8

Yes, it is straightforward. 1st stage just like most dry sealed diaphragm regs. 2nd stage is almost identical to Atomic 2nd stages.

    Atomic Z2 vs Zeagle F8

F8 is Zeagle’s Flagship cold water, Nitrox ready regulator. M1 is Atomic’s Cold water, Nitrox ready reg. Both second stages come without a swivel. I sell and service both in our shop, and dive them both and like them both. That said, I have a TFX coming soon.

    Atomic Z2 vs Zeagle F8

They are both High Performance regs. They are both really nice. Atomic comes with rubber hose and Zeagle comes with flex hose. The Atomic Reg that compares most evenly with the F8 is the Atomic M1. Maybe that is the price comparison to look at?

    Norte for days

Hi scubadada, I haven't heard anyone complaining about it either. Just making a comment based on observation. We've been a Shearwater dealer for many years, and haven't had any official comments from Shearwater about the accuracy of the Teric's thermometer. I first noticed the discrepancy in...

Your opinion regarding regulator service intervals

I can't even begin to count the number of times I've seen equipment failures on dive trips. We guide dive trips all over the world and I always bring extra regulators, hoses, spools, o-rings, various kits, ...you name it. I've always used up almost every little bit of spare supplies for people...

    Norte for days

I hope the weather cooperates and you get some dives in. I also hope the Nortes bring in some upwellings and cooler waters. We had a group of 20ppl in Coz and just got back home last week. I'm actually looking at the digital logged dives right now, and average water temps were consistently...
