If this is real - and becomes another piece of safety/ comm equip. - it will fundamentally change dive planning.
I'd be stunned. I think it would be amazing.
@Dan G the original post was now some 50+ posts ago - and I always learn a few things reading through the exchanges, but let's get back to your instincts here - what does your gut tell you ? That's what you go with.
I'll second ( or third, or fourth?) the opinion that taking a Nitrox class will help you understand PPO2, equivalent air depths, MOD, oxygen toxicity etc., and all the terms that Nitrox training will introduce. And really if you ever huff off a Nitrox cylinder you should know this stuff. It's...
Yep, the shop is in some different kind of orbit than yours, and look at it however you want- but I 'd go with the gut feeling. And for me that would be a no go. You could have a future as an AI and hey, you could be stellar - but I really don't think it'll be with that dive center.
Kid: Hey Dad, I wanna get scuba certified.
Can I just go find this gear and then go with you diving in Puget Sound?
Me: Classes first - and eventually you get to buy gear, thousand$ of dollars worth if it’s new, slightly less $ if its used but in either case - you have to get it serviced every...
I grew up in hell hole Bakersfield CA ( land locked, hot as Hades at 115 F , and very miserable) and moved to Seattle in 1995...so I took up scuba as soon as I could afford it.
I ignored my gut on a charter boat out in Grand Cayman... seas were much rougher than any of us expected. Put gear on, jumped in, started to get settled and was on the cusp of just getting comfortable - and look at my gauge and it's dead. I actually thought...do I just dive for a bit - then...
What I think I appreciated about your post - is the wisdom that you know 'it's time'. That shows a level of maturity that I hope I'll have in other aspects of life.
Watching this thread disintegrate...can we please get back on topic? Good...lord...people.
" The real question of this thread: is it worth buying a Rolex Submariner, the self called ultimate diver watch?"
I say - yes! 100%. For many people that are aware of the Submariner it's more than...
I love the Rolex DSSD 136660, but dang at 44 mm it's wayy too big for my wrist. I'll stick w/ Explorer II or Submariner. That's the size limit for me. And still won't wear one diving.
I'm also pretty sure I wouldn't wear my Tudor 79230N either.
Steve Krazer - I'd recommend you take those down to the closest scuba shop and have them inspected. They will be the real go-to place for real answers. ( Note: a bunch of us online are decent/ knowledgeable folks - but an in-person inspection will trump anything we might think we know about...
Yep...there was a guy on SB a few weeks ago - selling his used DUI FLX 450 (I think?) for $ 2200. And went on for a long while here about what a great deal this suit was.. blah, blah - the suit then sold for $ 700 less - at $ 1500.00 and that kind of reinforces my point, I don't give a rip on a...
It's going to be so expensive- people will go chase after other hobbies/ interests.
I still say scuba is a sport that's maturing more and more...and if the recession hits in Q4 of this year - look for divers to start selling off dive gear en masse.
That's the first thing to go when times get...
