    Zeagle Backplate Anyone?

I'm looking at a Zeagle BP and Wing at my LDS here in Seattle. The BP/harness is $264! Sounds a bit steep, but I may have to go with the Zeagle instead of a FredT or something if I want to DM at the LDS. Anyone have experience with this BP? How about the Zeagle 44# wing?

The Blue Hole, Santa Rosa, NM

I DM'd on another trip to the Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, NM. A friend got a great picture of the hole and I wanted to post it here for anyone interested or planning on visiting. I'm actually moving to Seattle soon, so I'm thilled about ocean diving, but the Blue Hole was really a lot of fun for...

    SharkPod Mounted to Boat?

I read a story of a sailboat cruiser that wanted to go for a swim in the middle of the Pacific one calm day. After a few minutes in the water, the lady jumped onto the boat quickly and reported a "large fish". She and her husband then spotted it from the boat... a large white-tipped shark...

J&J Baby Shampoo for Mask Defog

I did an internship with an instructor last weekend and he keeps a bottle of Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo (cut 50/50 with water). He squirts it in his masks and finger scrubs thoroughly. It defogs and cleans surprisingly well.

    How do dry hoods work?

Can someone answer me some questions? If you get the latex hood and it leaks, does the water go down the neck or is there still a neck seal keeping you dry even when the hood floods? How does the mask seal on the latex hood? If you flood your mask have you flooded your hood too? How about...

    DIY Drysuit conversion

I have a bit of a DIY question. It may be completely unfeasible, but I'll ask anyway. I have a neoprene drysuit that I used to use for waterskiing. It seals at the neck, wrists, and ankles. I wonder if it is possible to purchase drysuit valves and install them in this suit to make it work for...

    Dive Report - Puerto Peñasco

Just got back from a long weekend trip to Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) with a buddy. We drove from Colorado Springs (15 hours total). We did a boat dive out at Bird Island. There were sea lions galore but apparently they had just had their babies and so were not that friendly. The vis was...

Should AOW be taught simultaneously with OW?

While taking OW, I was offered the chance to finish my AOW at the same time (on the same open water trip). I accepted. Some forum users feel that it is not wise to receive this training all at once, but rather to have a healthy period of time before taking AOW to let OW skills "set in". The...

Question: Why are divers usually cool people?

I just spent the weekend in Santa Rosa, NM at the Blue Hole getting OW and AOW certified. It was so fun! The visibility was out of this world. You could put your face in the water and see every corner of the hole (until people started touching things of course). My general observation was...
