    lens problem

The video camera they gave me at work has what looks like hard water spots all over the front of the wide angle lens. It reminds me of the hard water spots on glasses right out of the dish washer. The lens is taken off and dry after each trip. It is only used in fresh water. It looks like there...

Titan Lx as a tech reg

Basically a stripped down Legend, no bells and whistles. I like the hose routing for doubles better than the Legend.

    Cert. Card

How long does it usually take to get your cert. card from NSS-CDS? I know the rangers will want a card before they'll let you in the water. Just finished Apprentice and would like to get in some practice before I schedule Full Cave.

Anyone know where I can find hose clamps large enough for a stage bottle rig? I'm trying not to put two clamps together.

    Replacing shop video equipment

We have a shelf full of older video cameras and housings that we used for our manatee tours. All three housings are Ikelite. One has a Sony Handycam 1.5 megpix DCR-PC120 NTSC. The second one has a JVC Digital CyberCam Mini DV NTSC. The third has a Compact VHS JVC 12X Hyper Zoom Quick response...

    Water Spots

In the last few weeks I've started to notice water spots on the lens. What would be the best way to keep this from happening? Can I use some sort of water sheeting agent or cleaner. It's taken about six months for these spots to appear on my wide angle lens.

PADI training courses on live aboard operations?

Yes you can take AOW on most liveaboards. All that I've been associated with only want instructors as DMs, so they can teach if asked, most are PADI instructors. Most boats are franchised, contact individual boat and tell them what you want to do so they have any required student materials on...

    Divemaster for a fee?

Seems like there was just something in the news about a lawsuit filed by some interns, I believe in the movie business, based on work vs. learning. In a perfect world ALL shop owners would be like Jim but DD lives in the real world. Too many people for too few positions with most willing to work...

    TWIC Card & airports

I asked about use of the TWIC for airline check ins and was told both systems are not linked so it would be of no use to speed up the process. I'll have to try it the next time I fly.

    Smoking weed on liveaboard

Part of the orientation will usually have something about illegal substances. Authorities have the option to impound the vessel if anything is found. Most every Capt. I've worked with will frown on bringing anything aboard that can cause them grief.

    Tank hydro,vis,tumble & valve service?

Most places I've worked at used the 500psi as a scare tactic to get the divers to pay closer attention to gauges. Back onboard in an hour or with at least 500psi. No min. pressure rule and it is surprising how many trips you have at least one diver come up with no air left. Charge $15 to VIP an...

Problems connecting Mares Dragon BCD inflator hose to Scubapro MK11

Seems Scuba Pro likes to make the sizes they use different than most others, at least reg. to BCD. Gives you the impression they only want you to buy Scuba Pro.

    crystal river SEND HELP!

Don't get your heart set on any manatees from here on till next Fall. They are heading down river to the gulf in droves, that's were all the food is now. The temp. in the gulf is about what the springs are. The last 3 weeks have been in the low 80's and the gulf was warming about 10 degrees a...

    Recommendations for 6 Pack

Island Hopper, Delta, Newton, all can be built ready to go right out of the box. Most of them out there were built to do the job you're looking for, so they would also be ready to go used. The M/G would be one heck of a trip, with fuel what it is, for 6 people. I'd try to stay out there for at...

    Minimum age for Scuba Diving

With me, anything under 14 is a private class. You pay to take the class, you don't pay to get the cert., you earn the cert. by how you do in class. I've had a few parents with issues (rose color glasses) and most dive shops don't like it, (bad for business). In the end, my job is to turn out...

    Crystal River Manatee Trip Report

Looks like the second video might have some questionable behavior. You have to remember it's all about PERCEPTION, from shore, from on the water and from in the water. When in doubt, don't.

Anyone know info good snorkeling in south Florida and Manatees?

Remember guys , it's all about the temp. It's been a pretty long warm spell. You're more likely to see more people than manatees at the springs. They're out all over the bay and even some starting down river. It's spring break starting now and the holiday weekend. People will out number manatees...
