    Liveaboard

If you're looking for something a little different than the standard liveaboard check out Thatch Caye Resort. We got back a few weeks ago and did the outer reefs on their personal liveaboard catamaran and had the most amazing experience - no other boat full of divers waiting or in front of you...

Have a look at the dive packages offered by Thatch Caye, privately owned and run eco resort, close to the reef, whale shark licensed guides and boats, go to the outer reefs as well, great food and really beautiful beaches. We just got back a couple of weeks ago and loved it!

Where to Start With Instructor Development?

Hit the encyclopaedia hard to get it out of the way, there's a lot of very detailed knowledge you need for the DM and OWSI exams. Try and grab as many hours in the water with other instructors on courses as you can to use the experience they have gained. Be confident in yourself when...

    Air 2 vs Airsource 3

OK, that all makes total sense, but the question still remains: Why change a perfectly workable system that so many divers have been trained on ('the alternate will ALWAYS be in that magic triangle and be brightly colored') just to have a different system. What are the advantages? Why have...

    Walk, run or bike?

Might sound a bit daft on a diving forum but have you considered swimming? It has such a low impact on the body, keeps the whole body moving, rather than just exercising small groups of muscles and gets the heart pumping like a good 'un!

    Scubapro Air2 benefits?

OK, can someone help me out here...... The place I dive has just got their new kit together and now I use a BC and reg that are the Scubapro Air2 system. I've asked the Instructors and they haven't given me an answer that makes sense so I'm putting it out to you all: When you have the...

Dive Shop in Playa Del Carmen - Advice

Scuba Playa has an excellent reputation in the area, as does Phocaea. If you want to dive Cozumel it's cheaper to get the ferry over and go direct to the dive operations there. The ferry is dead simple and Aquasafaris (turn right out of the ferry terminal and it's about 300 yards on your left...

Looking for 3 (day) dives a day

Check out Thatch Caye, southern Belize, as they tend to put together the package you want and quite often you'll have your own boat and Instructor...... They also run to the outer atolls such as BH/Lighthouse and Turneffe.

How to plan a group trip?

Trawl the internet, find a destination you like, call them and tell them what you want and how much you want to pay. I've worked in hospitality for years and this works more often than not, especially for bigger groups......

    Cozumel or Belize?

Check out southern Belize. I worked in Cozumel and have dived plenty in southern Belize and would say that you would not be disappointed. Choose to stay on one of the cayes as the trip out to the dive sites from the mainland every day gets very boring very quickly!

    Belize Live Aboard

There is actually 3 liveaboards in Belize as Thatch Caye have their own 43' cat. May is a great time to go. If you choose to stay in the south you can dive with the whale sharks, it's a 2 hour boat ride up to the BH and Turneffe, and they organise all their own inland tours. If you do...

What are your favorites dives in Belize?

Have you thought about basing yourself closer to the diving? Southern Belize has some great places to stay and the cayes are closer to the dive sites than those on the mainland. The whale sharks will be around at Gladden, not really possible from the north of Belize without some serious time...
